Ive tried to book a day trip using the tunnel as my Mother will not go on a Ferry and i could only book a five day return for a day trip which is £198, I refuse to pay on principle. I call up Eurotunnel and the chap I spoke to says that there are no day trips available from now till the end of April 2023 this seams a little stupid, surely people aren't paying near £200 for a day trip???? surely more cars equals more revenue being brought in... Anyone managed to get any cheaper tunnel tickets??

Sorry to hear that. If you have Tesco points you can triple their value towards Eurotunnel fares.

Could it be owing to the frequent delays making a day trip nearly impossible anyway?

I admit I've not travelled for a while but a colleague experienced more than a 3 hour delay in both directions last month.

I think the days of reasonably priced Eurotunnel are over for the moment, I used to take advantage of the cheap 48hrs return tickets before Covid often but they don't seem to be in a hurry to reintroduce them.

They have also restricted severely the amount of coaches able to take each crossing by ramping the prices up them and concentrating on the more lucrative tourist market for cars. I imagine that this is because they have an ever decreasing set of rolling stock and need to make sure that every journey is paying for itself, which it won't if it's full of cheap 48hrs return passengers...

So, you either pay the asking price or go on the ferry unfortunately...

Eurostar is much cheaper but they have a habit of just cancelling trains and leaving you stuck at either end unless you're willing to travel over 24 hours later and their insurance is worthless if you don't/can't take their forced option.

Maybe its the dates your choosing, I have just tried, and its £240 for a same day return, and about £160 for returning the following day.

Eurotunnel during lockdown extended anyone with a block of tickets (and possibly individual tickets) until the end of this year. Very handy for me as I purchased a block of 10 tickets, used 2 and then lockdowns happened. I thought I might lose them but they’ve been constantly extending the date and as another lockdown appeared extending it some more.

The impact of this is no day returns or the ability to buy blocks of discounted tickets as people are using them up.

We came back on the Shuttle on Friday after a couple of weeks in Brittany. There was a 20 minute delay on the Saturday morning going over, not much congestion and an earlier train coming back. I think that cost £249. Considering the lack of traffic on Friday, I am surprised they are not trying to attract more customers with cheaper fares, there is no way i would pay more than £50 for a daytrip.

I think Eurotunnel are just trying to get as much money in ASAP. All crossings seem to be up 25% from pre Covid times with no deals on offer on the basis that if you want to go you will pay the price.
