The style 442 alloys on my F31 were refaced/milled and lacquered when I purchased it 18 months ago. They are just starting to get milky spots again in places frown no perforation damage that I can see. It's a problem i've seen on a lot of alloys of this style with polished faces.

Has anyone ever just had these fully powdercoated? As with our weather I don't want to be having them refaced every 18 months.

The car is sapphire black, has anyone got any pictures of these 442 alloys in silver powdercoat rather than the dark with machined finish?

Thanks in advance.

FWIW my Dad had numerous issues with the stupid diamond cut alloys on his X3M

Got them fully powdercoated in Ferric Grey when the car was out of warranty (3rd set via BMW) and they never had any issues...

Deffo get them powdercoated; wears/lasts much better etc

This is OEM BMW silver:

This is Platinum Silver:

This is Ferric Grey:

Hope this helps with colours etc

Definitely get them painted or powder coated.

Diamond cut wheels are a pain in the arse and there are so many times that they can be refinished.

+1 for Ferric Grey, or in my case Ferric Gray II.

Definitely worth getting them powdercoated I'd say, Diamond Cut alloys can look lovely when new, but don't really mix with our wet salty roads very well.

Yeah they are a total pain in the backside. I had hoped that they'd last longer than 18 months.

I'm trying to find an image of these particular alloy done in silver powdercoat, nothing on google in a quick few minutes search. Will look again later.

Ahh nice one, many thanks. That might be a bit dark on a black car so will probably end up going for a brighter silver.

If it's any help; my previous F01 was Azurite Black

These were the platinum silver Style 351s:

And the Style 234s in OEM BMW silver:

The Platinum Silver is much brighter; the OEM silver has a slight grey tinge to it

I think I'll go for the platinum silver on mine as it suits the blue.

My only experience of getting mine diamond cut again resulted in the wheel place saying they'd already been cut back a few times and he wouldn't guarantee they'd last more than 3 months before needing painting/powdercoating.

On a side note, how does this work if you want to get your wheels refurbished? If you don’t have a spare set of wheels to swap over, do you just drop your car to the refurb company? If so, how long does it typically take to do 4 wheels?

I fitted new 20” diamond cut faced wheels last year & they are already getting milky patches beneath the lacquer.

The company I use charge an extra £40 to store the car, wheels off, tyres off, full refurb, tyres back on and balanced and fitted to the car etc...

But I've got 2 sets of wheels so haven't needed to do that in years now...

Thanks for that, I have always wondered smile Having a spare set would be advantageous.

It is something I would like to do as well..& also removing the diamond cut surface finish and having the wheels painted or powder coated..
