Upgrading from a BMW 118D to something else…

Hi everyone,
I have a nice BMW 118D which I bought over in Guernsey where I currently reside and I am near to paying off the loan that I took out to purchase this car. It really is a lovely car and was a step up from my BMW 116i that I bought in the UK.
It’s an automatic, Diesel car with just shy of 30k miles (without looking), 2016-17 model. I have now got to that point where I potentially want to upgrade again as the car gets older, and ideally move away from Diesel.. My plans are to move away from Guernsey within the next year or so to go back to the UK and therefore will be doing a lot more miles than I do in Guernsey!!
I had noted down two cars that I quite liked which would be the BMW 420i & the BMW 50 i4. I am a single person, so no kids or dependants at the moment. I also do like my cars so would like something a little more powerful.
I’d just like to put some feelers out to any cars that I haven’t heard of/seen yet, and/or what a natural step up from the 118D would be. I do enjoy the M-Sport brand and have always aspired to having something like that, but also not a deal breaker.
Probably looking to spend between the 20k-30k bracket, and obviously trade in/sell the current 118D.
Would really appreciate some recommendations.
