High altitude circuits
Discussion
I was walking in the South of Skye last week, and am used to lots of transatlantic or Iceland flights going overhead that you can see well on the clear days.
I noticed this time something doing at least 3 or 4 circles that could have been 50+ miles diameter judging by the vapour trails. Looked similar height to other commercial jets normally observed from here. Not much phone coverage so unable to check Flightradar, but nothing on playback I could see when I checked later.
If commercial jets need to use up fuel or time, would they not do this closer to major airports, rather than somewhere more remote? (This would have been overhead somewhere between Fort William and Torridon at a guess)
I was hoping it might have been a military tanker but sadly nothing seemed to appear to refuel, and the pattern looked more circular than racetrack.
