Any machinists able to help identify this cutting fluid?
Discussion
Evening all,
I'm trying to help a friend move on some remnants of his late fathers engineering business that have been in storage about a decade. The challenge thus far has been trying to work out what they are used for!
Some of these are barrels of "cutting fluid" and I've been able to identify most from the labels by googling (For example, one is labelled "Houghton Cut-max 600" which easily comes back as a general gear cutting oil, low sulphur, Rolls Royce aerospace approved).
However one has eluded both of us no matter how I try searching for it. The label states:
"Dascolene R18/022
D A Stuart Limited, Wolverhampton
Not classified as hazardous
Code 1135
Batch x, Date y"
Now, the company appears to be long defunct, and I'm not sure if that's the maker or the supplier.
Googling for "Dascolene" brings up all manner of engineering fluids, however they are all a different designation to this one. When I put in the full designation, I get no matches.
I've asked a few people I know in the industry and no one has any idea. I find it very weird that only this one appears to be unsearchable!
Over to PH, can anyone help at all please?

Does it matter, just get rid of it
It matter because if he can establish what it is, he can potentially find someone to buy it from him rather than him having to get it taken away. Even if it's to be taken away, most companies still like to know roughly what it is - solvent or water based, acidic or alkaline - for safety reasons DA Stuart appear to be part of Quaker Houghton now.
If you use their 'contact us' they may be able to help you: Quaker Houghton Contact Form
Alternatively ask as question on Model Engineer Forum. A lot of members will be from a professional engineering background and may know to which current product it equates. Model Engineer Forum
