Dash removal-Bloody Nightmare!!!

hi guys,

Anyone tried replacing their vaneer dash with a stainless steel one? Its a bloody pain in the arse!!!!

I can live with the so called elusive third bolt and yes, they are long but taking off the small light symbols (indicators and MIL etc)is a trauma.

If anyone attempts this on their own, remember this....patience is a virtue!Its such a fiddly job.

Anyway,one question:
1)with regards to the stereo panel, what adhesive should i use to glue the mounting brackets on to the plate?

Your advice would be much appreciated.

When you put the bolts back on, use butterfly nuts to make future removal easier.

Im gonna have to take the top off anyway cause i could not get to one of them. Thats a good idea though. Saves me messing about with a spanner.

Araldite worked for me. One day will work out an alternative fixing method tho - its a real PITA if you need to replace a switch... IIRC have seen some mods with button heads fixing the panel.

The dash cover is quite easy if you trim the studs down to a manageable length (particularly when you have to extract the cover by the binacle).

F*CK!!!!!My dash top was loose so took it off and redone it only to find the led's were not sitting inside the sockets properly. Got to take it off again!!

However, one thing was really funny...as i took the dash top off, the assembler who originally put it together drew a picture of a penis on the inside with a felt tip pen!!!!What a great sense of humour!

I might need some help after all,

use araldite...as for the lamps - I just bashed them out with a nylon hammer and saved the black claw washers...to put them back, clamp a 15mm yorkshire fitting in the vice, put the black washer on top of the fitting, on top of that put the new dash with the ally lamp fitting in to and GENTLY tap into place with rubber/nylon mallet...works a treat and doesn't damage the new dash...
