Afternoon all,

I put £1.67 of Unleaded (roughly 0.8L) into my 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia 2.2L Diesel like a tool. Realised my mistake and so filled up with about £75.00 (roughly 40L) worth of Diesel then drove about a mile home.

I thought the minor amount wouldn't be a big deal but now I have family members/friends telling me I've screwed up royally.

I've never done this before so honestly a bit clueless. Any insight would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Absolutely insignificant amount. It won’t even notice it.

So diluted it’ll be fine.

Since that's only 2% of the amount, if it were me, I'd carry on. smile

That will be absolutely fine, very small amount. Heard of people putting in 10-20 litres of petrol and still getting away with it.

If you want to be extra cautious top it up again when it’s dropped to 3/4….diesel of course smile

I’m King of Misfuellers. I’ve even managed to fill an MV Augusta F4 with diesel.

It’s never made any difference whatsoever - even a couple of gallons has made no difference. Just stop every 20 miles and top up with the correct fuel and it’s diluted down in no time. 5% is just a number someone pulled out of a hat.

No I’ve never had to replace a filter. And no the fuel pump hasn’t packed up through “lack of lubrication” or some other bolleaux.

It’ll be fine.

ratio is low - but i would top it up a few times to dilute it further.

I do wonder sometimes how people manage this. Even when I've hired a diesel car for the family holiday I've never picked up the wrong pump in 27 years of driving.

I wondered myself until this morning! Couldn't believe it. Clearly green and black aren't enough for me to distinguish, I felt a right donut.

At that ratio you will be fine.
