The dreaded time has come and im terrified of them borking it up and removing my motorcycle or car entitlements, how scared should I be, anything I can do before sending the licence off?

Before you do the swap, maybe obtain a certificate of entitlement? At least then you have ( if it's correct!!! ) proof of what your licence said before the exchange.

I'd heard about the possibility. When I renewed, I took a photo of the rear showing all entitlements, but it came back correct.

All your driving licence details are online.

Do it at the Post Office. Take a picture of your existing licence as already suggested. They'll still take your old one off you but at least there is not the risk of it all getting lost in the post.

If you are that concerned tick the box to say you've lost your old one and don't send it. If something goes wrong you can miraculously find it again . . .

Mmmm keep your old licence, I have done on about 6 changes of address in 10 years.

Kept so I had proof if the borked it.

Send them back only once you have the new one.

Mind you, the stories I've heard are that they are so dim that they wouldn't recognise it as proof anyway.

You only need a Passport if you do it on-line so they can use the photo. At the Post Office they take a photo of you, fill in all the stuff on their system and it's all done. Received my new one within about a week.

Keep your old one, don’t send it back, say you need it for probate ID. That’s what I did, because it was true. They will just ask you to destroy it when you get the new one.

This. If it's done by the PO it's done electronically by them and should result in a fairly quick turnaround within a week or so. Use one of the bigger PO's that has the full photo booth setup - the smaller PO's and ones that are now counters within small convenience stores don't do the service. The other alternative to the large PO's is to use one of the PO counters that are normally housed within larger WH Smith stores (or similar) as they tend to have the digital photo booth setup instore.

Last thread on the same subject if needed OP - https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Alex, mine was a small Post Office. He stood me next to a bit of white painted wall and took the photo on his tablet device thingy.

Yep, DVLA's record of what classes you are entitled to drive.

I have had periods where I haven't had a passport.

My latest I got just before Covid restrictions, thus nearly 3 years of not needing one.

That was a waste of a few quid.

Me. Or a photo card licence. Or any other photo ID.

Me too, no foreign holidays since wife wanted a dog, did warn her, and still on old green driving license, can't see me needing a photo Id version.
