5/6k to spend on a car, what would you buy?

if you had 5/6k to spend on a car what would you buy?

i like a sportier car, i was thinking of the fiesta st 1.6 turbo,i like fords and the tax and runnings costs seem fine, had a few mk2 focus st's and adored them although the tax and fuel costs is mental on them....had a 330d which was a great drive and sportyish,it just needed constant garage work although the engine was sweet and tax was not to bad and not even a full tank from cornwall to scotland was good.

any advice welcome, i dont want a 300 plus tax a year car, mpg is to important but itd be nice to be above 30 in general, manual or semi auto i dont mind....just not sure if theres many cars out there for that money anymore...oh and not to old 2010 onwards )

Similar to where I'm looking next. I quite fancy an Abarth 500 but it depends if that's big enough for you! Other considerations are 1 Series Coupe M Sport, DS3 THP & Scirocco GT.

abarth would be far to small, ill have to look at 1 series, whats the best engine?

I'd say look for warm hatch you'll get something smart swift decent on fuel & a decent steer too.

Buying a Fiesta ST at £6k is asking for trouble. You need to be spending at least £9k minimum, preferably £10k+ in the current market for a good one. Same goes for BMW 1 series, I'd avoid anything pre-2015 and you'll need at least £7k to get in a boggo 116d.

I disagree, an ST for £6k will be an early pre-2017 car that had issues with coolant leaks, cylinder heads warping, oil leaks, engine fires, etc, plus the belt change on an ST is also £1000.

The C250 uses the OM651 motor, which is used in Sprinter vans that reliably rack up hundreds of thousands of miles; the 3.0 XF is more reliable than the 2.7; the Multijet diesels in the Alfa are probably the most reliable bit in the car, the rest of the car will probably fall apart before the engine does; and the EA888 in the TT should be a gen 3 by 2013, which had the timing chain tensioner issues sorted.

I'd avoid old turbo audis, bmws, mercs etc. Just asking for trouble. Same with fords, old french cars.
