Does anyone have an Army Surplus website they'd recommend?

Want to buy a decent pair of boots but I didn't realise how many surplus sites there are.

Cheers
Baz

Didnt they used to have a large shop at the top of Tottenham Court road - opposite the Euston tower ?

Have 2 pairs of altberg defenders. One black and the other brown and they're by far the best boots I've been issued.

Not too expensive online it seems.

Tip: make sure you get some decent socks to go with them. Army boots don't necessarily work well with normal thin socks. British Army cushioned socks are OK for the price (make sure they're new/unissued!) but for longer distances/all day on your feet I'd recommend Darn Tough Merino socks.

Expensive but worth every penny.

I wear Lowa Combat GTX: tried a couple of pairs of Altbergs and didn't get on with them. Their Swartz footbeds (insoles) are the best I've ever used though.

I'm not ex army, but I only wear combat boots (have done for 20+ years) and I do a LOT of walking/hiking, so I'm 'funny' about boots (also got size 15 feet which limits my choice a lot).

MilitaryKit.co.uk and Military1st are 2 websites I've used in the past. Wide variety of surplus and new kit from proper manufacturers, some of their surplus hasnt been in stock for a while in some sizes and it wouldn't surprise me if people are buying it up to send to Ukraine.

I got some altberg sneaker boots used for a good price but you do have to watch the sole condition. A resole and new inserts could add £100 to the price.

With the altberg defenders, the issued ones don't seem to be of as high quality as the shop bought ones. I personally am a huge fan of their sneakers or desert microlite 2. I'll also echo the comment about decent socks, bridgedale summit are my preference.

Don’t soldiers moan like hell about the quality of their kit and often buy their own? Is surplus really the stuff to buy?
