£25-30k FK8 Type R replacement options

Hi guys,

I’ve got an FK8 Type R, which I love but starting to think about trying something new. Needs to have similar levels of “fun” & practicality 4/5 door with useable rear seats, and daily drivable.

Been toying with the idea of an F80 M3 with the earlier years just fitting within the budget, but most of them are looking a tad tired at this price point. Other than that it’s either a Focus RS or potentially a JCW Clubman?

Most of the motivation comes from wanting to “cash out” on the FK8 residuals before the new Type R hits the market.

You would be looking at one on around a 16 plate at that price.

I'd still be leaning toward an M3, £30k should get you into something nice.

I'd say get something RWD this time, otherwise it's unlikely to be better than your FK8 to drive.

M3 sounds like a good idea.

OP have you owned your Civic from new?

It's a trappy market to enter, 2nd/3rd hot hatches that have likely been thrashed / trashed

If you motivation is financial I'd think twice about a Audi or Ford or Golf as they a re prime bruv donut fodder

The Mini might be better

I’ve got a couple of weekend toys that are RWD so it’s not a huge deal for me. I did think about a Quattroporte but they are still a bit too expensive for my current budget!

I’m not a huge fan of Mercs, I don’t really like their interior design over the past few years, and I think the 6.2 is probably a bit too much for my daily duties!

I do like that second M3 link though.

No, I am the second owner. But it’s still got 2 years left of the warranty, and is in generally pretty good condition (I mean every car that is only a few years old should be…) but no seat bolster damage, not overly high mileage (24k at the moment). I know what you mean though, as I was originally looking for an FK2 civic and a lot of them were not up to my standard.

My motivation is only financial in the sense that I can pretty much get out of the civic for nothing because of the strange times we are living in. I just see that changing in the foreseeable future when the new Type R hits the market.

That second car looks very good & I like the colour combo, the M3's looks are also spot on imo even though I prefer the Mercedes I can totally understand why people go for the M3.

There is a leftfield option.

Maserati Ghibli S make sure the oil has been changed regularly & with good quality oil, youll get a nice one within budget too.

For me the second 350 I linked to is the pick but both 350's are facelift models.
