does any one know of a product that will soften the plastic on hood as it creases really bad when put it right down-or is this normal??

Yes, it's called a new plastic window. The creases happen because the plastic gets less flexible with age (don't we all!).

In the summer months the hood should be flexible enough to fold (carefully) without creasing. When colder it will crease if you're not very careful. One technique of avoiding this is to roll a towel inside the fold. It works fairly well having something soft to wrap around.
Keep a towel in the boot in a suitable colour to match your car. It can have other uses too when the weather's damp.

Seems to be pretty normal. But in the winter I would recommend warming the screen before folding to prevent it cracking.Probably best done by running the car with the heaters on full blast.
