Been lucky enough to own some great v8 engines, I use to think nothing could replace the sound and feel of a great v8. My favourite was the 5.0 supercharged in the F Type.

Recently I’ve been driving NA Porsches, fords 1.5 3 cylinder and EVs! which I’m starting to think it’s putting me off my v8 now, it’s like I only hear wasted energy. The flat 6 still sounds purposeful and racey. Is this the beginning off turning into an EV enthusiast? is there any cure? laugh

but seriously am preferring 6 cylinder sound to an 8, anyone else?

I can’t decide, so 1 of each is best. V8 and V6.
Just need an LFA now for the ultimate V10 and I’ll have the set!

Not sure when the changed happened, either it’s the quietness of an EV or the let down of the C63 and M5 turbo V8

V8 Doesn't do a huge deal for me -
6's and 10's sound nicer for the most part, but that may just be because there's a habit for V8s to be paired with obscene exhausts that replace tone with raw noise.

All of the above need to visit a Dr and have your testosterone checked. V8 is the finest engine end of.

I prefer a straight six to a v8.
I also prefer a flat 6 to a v8.
I prefer 6 cylinder engines to 8’s. A Ferrari 8 imo isn’t a pleasant sound ( it might be inside the car, ill never know because I’m poor). Every other 8 I’ve heard just sounds a bit agricultural and noisy.

I've got 3 cars with 6 cylinders...but that's only because I can't afford to run V8's though! hehe

I personally love V8's(I've had 3 of them over the years) and I love the noise they make. cloud9

What they said. Maybe go old school and get something without a turbo attached to it.

I say this as a flat 6 owner. They're pretty good compared to an i4 or i6 but I'd rather have a V8.

On a budget, you could even have a Chimaera 4.0 with a straight-through exhaust and that sounds better than a flat 6 with a sports exhaust.

Flat or cross plane?
The TVR is completely different to a Ferrari.
There’s a joy in the best 6, 8, 10 or 12 no need to limit yourself to one format.

I've had 5. It's a few years since my last and I just hope one day I can afford another before they disappear

Interesting as I am getting into natural aspirated V8's - but the old cross plane crank type that has a meaty rumble through the chassis, and not the German type which is raspy/throbby and has a digital/truncated type sound & feel.

Most of my past cars have been 6 cyl, Inline-6, flat-6 and V6, mainly of the turbo charged variety.

I’ve had many straight 6 BMW’s over the years and enjoyed them immensely.

However a V8 Rover SD1 with the forwards tilting bonnet would be great.

Nothing too fancy compared to the engines posted so far ,but I haven't found a car that sounds better than a unequal headers Subaru....everything else sounds just tinny and irritating....don't shoot smile)

Agreed, flat plane isn’t a “real" V8 noise.

The perfect V8 is an old yank with a lumpy cam at idle.
