Cats breaking down ?

Last time I drove the car, it felt a little bit hesitant on a light throttle, but cleared as soon as full throttle was applied - I just though it was the weather (damp) so ignored it.

This evening driving the car & it still had the same hesitation - about 10 miles into my journey I noticed sparks (well, red stuff) coming form the rear of the car which was quickly followed by lots of flashing from the Alfa behind me. :eek: Pulled over & couldn't see anything (no glowing cats) & hard blips of the throttle didn't produce any more sparks, so slightly wearily carried on. Having now done another 40 ish miles, the hesitation is certainly less than it was (although no hesitation at all when using full throttle).

The car only just passed emissions test last MOT & garage said the cats were probably on their last legs.

Is this just the cats slowly falling apart ? The car has a sports exhaust, so it's a fairly easy route for bits to come out the exhaust !

I hope I just need a decat ! ;)

No smel of petrol - well not that I've noticed. Have just got home though & I'm sure it's noisier than when I left !

Eddie commented that it was 8100dy noisey anyway last night! A decat means I'm going to make ears bleed !!! Oh well !

(I take it my prognosis is right then & I don't need to speak to the bank manager about anything more serious !)
