help please....... clicking front wheel ?

I have an S2 which recently had a new drivers (o/s) upper ball joint replaced (not sure if its related). Tonight I can hear a clicking from the front wheel area under load on a roundabout.

Its a wheel related click e.g. gets faster & slower. And comes from the drivers side front wheel when giving it a little bit of throttle round a roundabout.

Any ideas what this could be ? ball joint, bearing, rack ??????

Any thoughts would be appreciated, i'll have a closer look in daylight tomorrow.

Something catching on the brake disc maybe ? If not that simple, cracked disc ?

Your daylight inspection should solve the problem - there's not much it can be if its a rotational issue.

How about it being just a large stone stuck in the tread that only comes in contact with the road when turning, or possible a nail in the tread??? Just a thought......

Check the brake line has been refitted properly and isn't catching on the wheel . The other thing to check for is a wheel bearing on the way out.

My suspicion was maybe a wheel bearing, but how do i cdheck or test for this ?

Beleive it or not - i've solved the problem.
I really should of learnt this by now...... whenever anybody else works on my S I must check everything theyve touched.
2 of the wheel nuts were very slightly loose ( on a 4 stud pattern, the two oposite each other). This allowed the wheel & hub to move back & forth very slightly on each revolution of the wheel when i was applying sideways pressure.

Took the wheel off & back on, checked everything else & now its as good as gold.

Although i'm upsetting the locals by going round & round the roundabout 10 times in a row !!!!!! but i had to test it.

Could be wheel bearing or a ball joint. Same job to check for both. Jack the offending wheel up. Place your hands top and bottom of the wheel and check for loose play by pushing in and out. There sould be no movement. If there is then ball joint is suspect. Putting your hands at each side of the wheel (quarter to 3) and pushing in and out will show up wheel bearing play. Hope this makes helps
