Hi I was hoping for some advice on what my best option is. I brought a VW touran 2 litre dsg auto back in 2021 , we have always driven VW golfs but had to get a touran due to having 4 children and needing more seats, the turbo went on it and so we brought another VW touran 2 litre tdi manual but had kept the old touran outside as planned to fix it and use it again now the turbo has gone on the other touran . So we have no transport which we need asap for our family , money is now really tight so I have contacted carbreakers and there quote was £422 for each car which still wouldn't be enough for me to purchase a new car , is it better for me to list as spares and repairs and how much do people offer at the moment for VW touran Spares? The dsg auto one has no mot but my manual one had a brand new mot 2 months ago. I cannot afford for garage to fix it quite frankly I want to purchase different not a touran again.

Have you had any quotes to fix either of them?

Maybe speak to a local garage and offer them the car without an MOT in exchange for fixing the one with the MOT?

Pick the better of the two, sell the other on eBay 'spares or repairs', use the money from the sold car to repair the other.

Turbos are fairly cheap to replace if you get a refurbished one. Certainly you'd turn a profit by fixing both cars and selling them rather than just getting £400-500 'scrap' for them.

For your next car, get a petrol non-turbo....

Looking at £800-1000 even for an independent to replace the turbo with a warranted unit, plus oil pipes and service etc.

It's only a cheap job if you buy an eBay special and DIY.

VAG turbos particularly on the 140 TDI BKD engines are a common weak point.

What exactly is wrong with them - is it 100% complete turbo failure rather than a boost pipe for example?

I think it would also depend on the age and mileage of both Tourans as to whether its worth throwing £1k at them or not.
I'd look on Autotrder or such other sites to see how much similar Tourans are up for sale for and then feed that into the decision.

Its definitely worth getting someone to give you a proper full quote for the repair as others have said it may be a pipe on the turbo that has gone rather than the turbo...

Definitely a moral here about buying a 2.0TDi Touran....

Thanks guys just ordered a turbo off eBay. Hopefully all goes well 🫣 hate the 2 litre engines prefer the 1.9s never had a problem with them. Will probably make one good one out the both then scrap the other
