2021 Ceramic Daytona playing up - not holding reserve charge
Discussion
Hi
Before I start, yep I know it's under warranty and can go back but I'd rather not be without the watch if an easy fix. Heard it could take 8-10 weeks.....
Watch will stop frequently, even after being wound. UNLESS I run the stopwatch function then it runs fine and seems to charge the battery reserve.
My latest test was to run the stopwatch for 1 sec and stop it but not reset it back to the 12 o clock position. Hasn't stopped since.
I'm no watch maker, I like the way they look, I don't understand how they work.
Before I send it back to Rolex for months, does anyone more in the know have any experience of whether this could be a simple fix, I'd rather pay £100 and have my watch back the next day than have it fixed for free but be gone for months.
Any advice or previous experience shared is appreciated :-)

If you let anyone else mess with it that could be the end of the warranty, in reality I doubt they would have a way to tell if someone had had the back off and poked about.
Personally I would be sending it back and waiting the frankly ridiculous waiting times .
Sacrilege I know , but you could get an extremely good replica for £500 , wear it for 8 weeks then sell it for £400. No one would ever know

I had exactly the same issue with my 2015 Daytona at 2 years old. Fortunately I was working in London at the time so I took it directly to the Rolex service centre to get it fixed and they confirmed it would need stripping down to sort the problem out, I got it back about 8 weeks later. Covered under warranty so no cost and came back in a nice soft green Rolex pouch. This is a no brained. Send it back to Rolex.
Having read the two replies above I agree Gregs, got to go back…. What a strange issue, not had a single issue on any rolex for years.I’ll have to dig out my dodgy dubai special Panda and run that for 2 months while I wait for the real thing to return :-(
Appreciate the feedback guys
It sounds like you have made the right decision to send it back to Rolex.... It will need to be completely disassembled and for a watch of this age, complexity and value, only Rolex should do this.
I had both an Omega and a Breguet serviced recently and they both came back in a couple of weeks - I was expecting months. So you might get lucky.

Was heading into Bham for sunday lunch so dropped the watch into WOS for a warranty repair. Had a couple of drinks while they inspected and completed the required admin.
Chap confirmed its in great condition, no signs of being dropped or damaged and said he had another Daytona in 2 weeks ago with same problem. Advised possible 6 weeks until it’s returned.
Tried to get him to sell me something to fill the void, said he would love to but nothing available - SHOCK. Dont ask dont get tho right!
Will confirm what they tell me upon its return pre Xmas.

Guessing you don’t wear it often?……..heard it is sometimes a problem with watches that are not worn regularly. Chap confirmed its in great condition, no signs of being dropped or damaged and said he had another Daytona in 2 weeks ago with same problem. Advised possible 6 weeks until it’s returned.

Not wearing or leaving unwound sometimes results in how shall we say ‘things drying up’……

Quite the opposite, it's rarely left my wrist for nearly 2 years apart from the odd bit of manual labour when I don't want to risk scratching it. Safest place for it IMO is on the wrist. No idea what has caused it and chap at WOS said you wont really get any info from Rolex it will just come back fixed! Battery reserve?
Watch will only re charge the battery reserve when stopwatch (chrono) function is running or has been engaged and stopped but not reset. Once reset, watch just runs the power reserve down.Posted above says it happened 3 times on his AP chrono. WOS advised same issue on same watch couple weeks previous.
Common ish issue it would seem.
Apart from that watch keeps perfect time!

You've just put me off getting an AP Chrono there !!!
Do you still have it ??
I still need to get into Bham and drop mine off.
i do, but it has a completely new movement in it. after the third time of being broken they just replaced it. Do you still have it ??

Slightly different watch and scenario but I assume they're overestimating timescales in the workshop ... I bought a new SD43 mid July, developed a ball bearing type rattle after 3 weeks. Took it back to the AD mid August ... was told I wouldn't get it back till November but may be prioritised as it was a new watch. It was repaired and returned to the AD within 4 weeks.

I’ve had my 116520 Daytona for nine years (same 4130 movement as your 2021 model), it was a year old when I bought it, I’ve read a fair bit about the movement, and I’ve never seen mention of a battery in all that time, anywhere. Unless you’re referring to the mechanical automatic mechanism as a battery?
