111R Steerinng and Suspension
Discussion
Had the annoying knocking sensation coming up through the steering for the last 2 weeks, which progressively got worse as time past.
Took the car to Westovers for an inspection and it seems that I need a new steering column. This bit I understand, but they also mentioned that whilst they were replacing the column, they would also "Turn the Shocks". Anyone any idea, what that is supposed to cure, or are they just being nice people and that sort of thing is something you are supposed to do as regular thing.

OK, so an update and a Thank you.
Driving this evening had a noticable clunk from the steering again and the knocking then got worse. Stopped off to do a bit shopping, then on the drive home, same thing.
So as I was on the Ringwood Rd, near Halfords, decided to stop off at Westover to get them to have a look.
No definative diagnosis, but a possible one is that one of the teeth in the steering rack has sheared off.
Now for the Thank You.
Had spoken to Becky earlier today to find out how the supplting of the new Rack was coming along. Turns out that it had arrived that morning, so car was booked in for 24th Aug.
Whilst I am shopping as mentioned above Becky contacts me to say that Lotus, now want a Field Engineer to inspect the car, prior to any Warranty work being carried out. No ETA for when the fabled Engineer will arrive.
Explain to her about the Clunk earlier and thats the end of it.
When I arrive at Westover Service Desk unannounced, no seesm that surprised and within a few mins a Mechanic is whisking the Car away.
After about 40mins the diagnosis is made and Domonic pronounces that although the car is technically safe to drive, they would not be that happy with that situation.
So....They have have given me a Loaner(Its worse than the one you had Gooby, but at such short notice who cares) they have the Elise and hopefully by EOD tomorrow I should have my car back fixed/safe and drivable again.
I have made some comments previously that were not exactly complimentry, not that bad either.
Now all I can say is a very big THANK YOU to both Domonic and Becky for their patience and an excellent level of service.
