I have a question I hope someone can help me with. I currently work full time for a company that is 190 miles away from my home address. I work alternate weeks, one week on site, the next working from home.

When I am away I stay in a local guest house that cost's me £135 for 3 nights stay. I tend to bring my own food and not eat out.

My question is I know I can claim a percentage of my home utilities but is there anything I can claim for my time working away (miles, accomodation, subsistence etc). With holidays etc I work less than 50% of the year on site. If I was still a contractor I know I could claim but are any of these options open to me as a full time member of staff?

Thanks for reading

Brian

I doubt it; if your contractual place of work is at the company site then you are merely 'commuting' to work when you attend site.

I think your employer could have paid 'relocation' and it could have been tax free?

Otherwise I suspect it's just a cost of deciding to live away from where your 'permanent' work is.

He hasn’t relocated so that’s not an option.
