Just seen on the news there are another 19 days of strike planned for October/November.

Starting to take the piss now.

We send out roughly 300 large letter size per day + our tracked 24 parcels. Is their any other competitor that will come close with price?

another thing i was pondering was can Royal mail not get rid of staff that strike? why can they not be sacked and people who want a job hired?

Moved to Evri, paying £2.43 for 48 hour tracked and £3.17 for 24 hour tracked delivery.

We gave up with RM for large letters a few months back, loss rates going up month by month especially with untracked large letters. I have two friends who work for RM and they're saying they're short staffed and relying on overtime in the depots to finish as much work as they can, but the brief is basically get the tracked and specials out ASAP and the letters / large letters go out when they get around to it, which does explain the long delays that my business was experiencing with RM.

Assuming UK ? You won’t beat Fast Despatch Logistics unless EVRI really wants your business

The local sorting office told me the same - basically no real difference between first and second class now.

The dates have been strategically set so the backlog never gets cleared, whilst it’s 19 actual days in effect it’s 50 days of poor disrupted service which for many SME’s fighting for their life on so many fronts could be the straw that breaks ………

I'm pondering if they could pay their staff an inflation matching pay rise out of their profits? I am a snowflake though.

£758 million profit last year but 162k staff

So a 2k rise per staff member alone would cost £336 million, plus pension and NI contributions.

On the other thread, it seems that it’s the changes proposed to working conditions are as much as a bone of contention as a payrise.

Seems RM want to go down the ‘pound of flesh’ route and if rumours (strenuously denied so probably some truth to it) of a sell off to a foreign firm who don’t want staff tuped over on current conditions as part of the strenuously denied deal. (But no doubt some senior bods will make out like bandits but it’s been strenuously denied so definitely not happening whistle )

I run a small business, alongside my 9-5 job and these strikes will be crippling for me. I send out letters and large letter sized mail and there's no alternatives which aren't at least double the price. I'm giving customers the option of paying extra for EVRI now, but I doubt many will take it. They'll take the cheapest option, then moan when nothing arrives for weeks. Feels like I may as well shut up shop for a month or 2 until it's resolved.

Antidotal I know but a very good friend on mine is a Postman. Most mornings he finishes way before his actual shift ends and that includes running errands whilst on his round. At Christmas he does nights and often posts up pictures of him bedding down for the night in the office.

He absolutely loves his job, half decent money and zero stress. You don't even have the mental early starts or lug your post on a bike anymore.

Strikes it seems are viewed as additional holiday by the posties.
