Changed Reg, now no longer ULEZ compliant

Changed car to a London ULEZ compliant one , after a month or so having already ventured into the ULEZ zone without penalty , the VRM was changed to a personal plate .
Out of interest I just checked to see if TFL had updated their system to show the correct car against the VRM and to check the ULEZ status , to my irritation the car is now NON compliant , TFL are no help on phone ,to get it corrected I have to set up a TFL charging account , register the car , upload copy of V5 and 4 photos of the car , front , back , side and interior and then wait .
I have a good mind to ignore this and the first time I get a penalty , challenge it telling them their data is incorrect .

I had the same thing earlier this year, when I changed cars from a non-compliant to a compliant car, with the private reg being moved to the new car as well.
TfL's records had the reg number as being on the new car but it was still categorised as non-complaint.
I had to upload a copy of the new V5, and i got a reply within a few days to say that their records have been updated.
It was a bit of inconvenience, but it was dealt with smoothly by TfL.
I wouldn't recommend going all gung ho, as you'll end up with a whole lot more paperwork and risk of PCN's if you don't sort it out properly in the first place.

If they wrote back asking for photos, I would have sent them, but they didn't ask for them.
I presume that they might require photos for an older car, so that they can verify that it meets the ULEZ standard.

Perhaps you woul like to explain how changing a VRM alters the vehicle emmisions .Vanity is expense it would seem who knew.

Spoke to a helpful lady in TFL .ULEZ customer services , she checked the V5c that I had sent and could see no reason why extra information was required as everything was already on the V5 .and the vehicle should have been listed as compliant as a matter of course
She is going to refer the paperwork back to whoever sent the follow up mail and get it sorted out for me ,soon I hope as I need to be able to go into the zone to get to Wikes in Catford . This because what I need will not fit in an MX5 (20 years old and ULEZ compliant)

Was reading the thread and wondered if it worked the other way... Seemed it does.Was your plate fiited to a complaint car before you put it on your 5 series? How old is the 5 series?

ULEZ is all about NOx, if it has carbs then its almost certainly petrol and not pumping out a whole load of NOx.
Not really about NOx seems to be a cash grab to me.If its NOx ban all non compliant cars eliminating high levels rather than charge, I believe some European countries just ban older vehicles from city centre.
On the other side it seems compliance is very messy and not clear.
