Selling car via carwow, collection 5pm, money in on Monday?

Folks

We are selling my Mrs car via car wow, the dealer that is buying it is the opposite end of the country, the car is being collected between 4pm and 5pm today but the dealer are saying they won't be able to transfer the cash (>£10k) over until Monday.

Buyer is, I believe, a Ford main dealer.

Maybe ask them if you can collect a car from them and pay them next week?

Tell them to swivel personally but it's up to you.

we move cars for dealers, always paid before they are collected or when we are there. I personally wouldnt let it go until funds show.

Can't speak for CarWow, but when we sold through Motorway the chap collecting the car sat on the drive until I'd confirmed the funds had showed up in my account.

It's probably all above board but at the very least it's a bit cheeky. I suspect it's nothing more dodgy than the accounts guy going home early on Friday.

Jct600 tried to buy a car from me this way, er no, i don’t think so, they paid at point of collection in the end and sat on driveway till cleared.

I had this with one online sale. The problem was that by the time the collection driver had sent his condition report to the dealer, the end of day banking deadline had passed. The payment request was processed by the dealer's accounts department (they emailed me a screenshot), but would not get actioned by the bank until the next morning.
The money was in my account by 08:15 the next day.

Shouldn't be a worry if the buyer is a main dealer.

Sold a couple of cars to Moremoneyforyourmotors and have always had the funds cleared before their valuer has left my property. Cars have remained on our drive for up to a week but the valuer took both keys as soon as I confirmed payment to my bank account.

I'd be very cautious.................

Nope.

I've sold 2 cars via Motorway, they don't get to go until the payment is cleared. Standard practice.

Get them to transfer before they collect if it's too late in the day for a transfer.

Having had a Ford main dealer go bust on me between paying for a car and collecting it, I still don't trust them as far as I could throw them.

Do I think they won't pay on Monday or in some way are trying to scam you, if it's a Ford dealership? No.

Would I let the car go without payment? Also no. Not because of the above, but because it's well within their capabilities to pay you before they take the car and it's good practice.


I've sold several via Motorway to both indies and big franchise groups, and all have paid while their driver waited for my confirmation. Some of these were "well out of hours" e.g. 8pm, so it can be done and at no point did they suggest (oh can we just transfer the money next working day?)

If they can't do it, tell them to rearrange to next week. I think it boils down to whether the accounts person who pushes the button is available (remotely or otherwise) at the time the car is collected. The payment can be sent 24/7 at the moment, and appear in your account instantly. Unless this is some multi-million pound transfer, but somehow I doubt it

what if your car is "the other end of the country" they find a fault and decide to reduce the payment by a grand?

If the boot were on the other foot would the dealership allow you take delivery of a car on a Friday with the promise/understanding that you'd pay them on Monday? Somehow I doubt it. Therefore they have to play by the same rules. No money, no car.

Probably want to take it and have a look at it so they can try and chip you before sending the cash... Tell them to do one unless you're desperate.

I "sold" a Subaru Impreza Turbo to a Subaru Dealer about 20 years ago. I say sold, but the reality was their offer was £500 less than the outstanding finance so I gave them £500 and the car with the agreement that they would clear the finance.

What followed was several weeks of sleepless nights with me phoning Subaru finance several times a week to be told it hadn't been cleared. When I chased the dealer they had always "just paid it" and I had serious thoughts about going down there and trying to get the car back.

A couple of days before the next payment was due I phoned the Subaru finance and was finally told it had been paid. The dealer had left it to the absolute last second to clear the finance.

Taught me to never hand a car over until I had the money in my account.

dont let the car leave until its paid, The other way around do you think they will let you take a new car away and you can come back and pay a few days later of course not.

Main dealer here and i would not let the car go until youve been paid
