Have you ever had a car impounded?
Discussion
I was once the custodian of a vehicle on behalf of an organisation who had registered the vehicle at their charity address but it was trusted to me and I was taking care of it. So typically it wasn't at the registered keepers address but outside my place instead.
As an organisation they were having some internal issues and as a consequence finding someone to pay for the tax for this vehicle wasn't happening. When I agreed to take the vehicle it was taxed and I didn't think they would stop taxing it so there was never any plan to keep it off road.
One day I decided I wanted to move it so I added it to my trade policy. When I got home later that day it was gone. So my trade insurance company were in cahoots with the DVLA and as soon as I had connected my trade policy with the vehicle the impounders swooped in and plucked it off the street.
I don't mind telling this story because I was helping them and not guilty myself of failing to tax it, I did nothing wrong. It was an interesting episode. Going to get it out of the pound was fun as well.

Only once on New Years Eve in 1979. I parked my Rover P6B behind a line of other cars in Kingston-upon-Thames next to a boarded-up building site as all I could see was a single yellow line, but it seems there was a 2nd line behind the boarding!
So when I came back my car wasn't there and I walked to the Police Station to report it stolen! They smugly told me it was in the pound nearly a mile away so I had to walk there.
In their office they had maps of places to park in the town, one of which was a car park where the building site was. I told them their map was out of date and wished them a miserable 1980, then grudgingly paid the release fee (£35 I think) and went and found my car that was in a line with the others I had parked behind!
Put that down to experience and it has worked so far.

Happened to me in Alicante a few years ago with a hire car.
Got back to the car park after a few hours on the beach and the car was not there. Apparently I had left the front tyre sitting on the white parking bay marker line and the police removed it. They knew it was a hire car so easy money for them.
It was thanks to a couple of old Spanish guys who told me what had happened and told me where to go to collect it.
Cost me a 30 Euro fair and 167 Euros to get it back so quite an expensive few hours at the beach.

I picked a mate up at Malaga airport in a French reg car and was stopped by the police leaving , I’d left my wallet in the flat I was staying at and couldn’t produce my drivers license, cue a tow truck and a 2 hour 160 euro round trip in a taxi . But I know not to argue with a man who carries a gun for a living !
