Firstly let me say I'm totally new to these streaming services and I've just signed up for the free trials on a few whilst I decide which one is for me.

However, I seem to struggle (on all of them) to find music which I like. I tend to buy mix albums of dance tracks with unusual edits (Ministry of Sound type). Normally the tracks are blended (mixed) together, but I cannot seem to find anything?

Am I searching the wrong way, or the wrong streaming services, or do things like this not exist on streaming services at all? I just seem to be able to play standard radio edits and nothing mixed together.

Thanks all for any advice!

I use YouTube premium - YouTube music is free with it - if there’s a mix or remix of something by anyone on YouTube : it’s on YouTube music as well.

I listen to a lot of obscure club sets, record label live sets and bedroom remixers and it’s all there.

Good shout as that's the one service I haven't tried.......what's the quality like as I always assumed YT was poor?

As for the mixes and obscure club sets are they easy to find? Is it just like searching YT?

I'll give it a try later today.........new speakers arriving so can't wait (KEF LS50 wireless 2).

I’ve never had an issue with quality. I guess it depends on the original upload quality on YouTube though.

I search on YouTube, give whatever music I want a thumbs up (like) and as the two apps are linked - it will appear in the “your likes” playlist in the music app.

Depends what type of dance music you like. Armin Van Buuren's "A State of Trance" podcast is on Spotify. It's also on YouTube Music. You can probably find loads of mixes of whatever type of dance music you like by searching for it on YouTube, but possibly not the big brand compilations.

Spotify seems to be pretty lousy for any type of compilation. Whether that's due to the complication of having to deal with the publishers of each individual artist on a given compilation, or some other reason, I'm not sure. During a moment of nostalgia I looked for "Hits 6" which I'd originally been bought on a tape as a teenager. Nowhere to be found online.

I don't use Spotify anymore, but how easy is it to search for user-generated playlists now? I remember people just basically remaking these compilation CDs in playlist form.

Look for DJ sets if you want stuff mixed.

Buckets loads of content on Mixcloud. I pay about £3/month for access to everything Graeme Park uploads (some is free if you want to have a listen first).

Another mention for Youtube as well - DJs like Miss Monique put up a lot of good mixes eg

I use Apple Music, and they now have a specific 'DJ Mixes' category which is really good. While working this afternoon I've been listening to a Fatboy Slim mix on Apple Music that was recorded live at 'Hi Ibiza' Club a couple of weeks ago smile There is tons of stuff on there from all dance genres.

Also, on whatever streaming service you use, try searching for 'continuous mix' or 'DJ mix' and that often brings up mixed albums.

Also, don't forget you can also stream loads of different live internet radio stations with DJ's mixing live or prerecorded. House, Funky, Chilled, Trance, Deep, EDM etc, there are so many stations.

Have you tried Apple Music? e.g. https://music.apple.com/gb/curator/apple-music-dj-...

Although you can see the individual tracks on "mix" albums they still come out seamless when played.

Don't be put off if you're not an Apple user - Apple Music works fine on Android & most TVs.

There's a few on Qobuz. Can't remember if they do a free trial so you can have a look/listen or not.

Lots of stuff on SoundCloud too which fits the bill. I've just been working my way through the 2manydjs back catalogue.

I would second the recommendation of Mixcloud.

I've been using it for a couple of years (free) and there is so much on there to choose from. I have found lots of the more obscure (in my opinion) mixes that I thought I would never be able to hear again. Loads of Radio 1 essential mix stuff, including my favourite ever with Jeremy Healy.

Another vote for SoundcCloud endless amount of DJ mixes. I also find it very good if your not sure what to listen to, pick a track your in the mood for, press play and let SoundCloud choose from there. It's very good at selecting similar or complementary tracks, introducing you to new music.
And all for free!
