I have a 911C4 at the V250 stage, with delivery to the dealership expected end Oct/early Nov. My car is MY23, and will have dashcam pre-wiring completed at the factory as a standard item. Has anyone recently taken delivery of a similar vehicle and then had the Porsche-branded dashcam fitted by the dealer? If so, how neat is the wiring installation? Does the dashcam simply plug in, or is there more for the dealership to do? Did this reduce the cost of the dashcam compared to the previous ask for purchase/installation? Would it be possible to install an alternative camera? My salesman is unsure on these issues, not least as they've yet to take delivery of a MY23 car. NB I've never had a dashcam, but am likely to go ahead in this case.

Hi - retail price at the dealership has been about £880, including fitting. The question is whether the price reduces if the dealership doesn’t have to do the pre-wiring?

What £800 ouch I have a next base dash cam in our mini which is wired in to the 12v socket underneath centre console, it cost less than £100 and I think it is pretty good!

Yes, £800 is a lot - so will be of interest to see if that reduces now it’s factory pre-wired. Either way, I guess that you should get a neat installation, and with Porsche approved hard-wiring giving more recording flexibility whilst avoiding possible warranty issues from a 3rd party/DIY solution.

It is a ridiculous size. Why is it so big?

You can get a top spec 4K Blackview system which can be wired invisibly to your fuse box for £300

£800 is just taking the p**s you’ve got more money than sense if you pay that!

a 3rd party dash-cam wired in can null ones warranty and insurance.

£800!

My skoda came with a USB C port in the rear view mirror as standard and the lease company gave me a dash cam in the fleet kit!

I can see why it would affect the warranty (although it shouldn’t that’s just Porsche being greedy) but why would it affect insurance?

I love my Porsche but this sort of money grab just annoys me.

If the wiring is there already I bet you can just use that unless they have a Porsche specific power connector as well

I've a Blackview system on my RS and my daily, however, you cannot mount them in the centre of the windscreen which on playback looks like you're over the centre of the road, so not good.
If you mount them under the r/mirror legally they impede the forward vision.

The Porche camera is off-set so it can be mounted in the centre of the windscreen and the main body is off-set to the edge of the r/mirror

This is how I understand their design logic.

I’m hoping that the cost of standardising the factory pre-wiring was included in the last 992 price bump. In which case the dashcam will no longer be £800+ (as that figure included dealer pre-wiring/fitting).
If the dashcam is still sold for the old price, even Porsche owners with deep pockets must think twice.

Anyone who takes delivery of a MY23 vehicle will find the answer, hence my thread-starter. I appreciate that if it
stays on track I’ll be one of the first to receive the MY23 (ie price-increased) model - but someone out there must be ahead of me!
