Book keeping software. advice /recomendations

I'm starting a small to begin-with side business nothing revolutionary selling low-cost items on eBay and am in the process of getting going I've started to look at accounting packages but to be honest, it's a bit bewildering does anyone have any advice or experience? in essence, it's a limited company with lots of small sales and two directors(neither powerfully built for the older pistonheaders) I'm kind of aware of the requirements of a limited company having had one before but I just dumped everything on my accountant and generated bills to match this time id like to reduce the need for that and also keep my finger on the pulse better any comments or recommendations gratefully received

I think the main SaaS based offerings such as Quickbooks and Sage have 7 day trials so play with a couple and see which you prefer.

I do my wifes accounts and so far just using a spreadsheet but she only has a couple of invoices a month and low outgoings.

We currently use Xero for bookkeeping, it does everything we need and most accountants can use it for end of year filing.

For accounting for ebay/amazon/shopify we use linkmybooks (https://linkmybooks.com). It generates all sales invoices for each payout from every channel and its as simple as clicking send to xero and it matches up with bank payments. Im not sure of the current prices as we were early adopters and are still on legacy pricing but if the price doubled tomorrow i would still pay for it because of the time it saves.

Xero runs our payroll of 2 directors and 4 employees and is pretty simple to do at the end of the month.

I've run a small (non VAT registered) limited company for 13 years.

I just used an multi sheet Excel workbook for the accounts and HMRC basic PAYE tools for payroll. Works well enough for my simple requirements.

Not sure what's going to happen if MTD gets any more advanced though.
