Friend is looking what to get after GR yaris.

One of my Pals has a GR yaris and is coming to the end of their agreement soon and potentially looking for something else.
Their budget is around 35K, maybe 40K for the right car.
Needs to be in warranty
doesn't need to be too practical
30ish MPG.
They have looked at Caymans however from looking online seem to be more or less on par with the yaris, and if theyre spending more money, they want some performance.
They may potentially stick with it is nothing stands
any suggestions would be appreciated.
They're not looking for FWD

Alpine is very much at the top of my list - though not close to being available <£40k at the mo.

Others that I’ll be looking at too include the new M240 and 3l Supra or, a far bit cheaper, Alfa Guilia Veloce

The Supra is not a fun car but it is easy to tune if a 2019. Mine is a stage 1 and goes very well in a straight line but I am selling it as it is a one trick pony. The 240i is equally as boring.

Get an Alpine or a Cayman etc if you want a proper fun sports car.

Alpine is the best option here.

Never driven a Lotus Emira, but when it comes out, the i4 engine it could be worth a look.

BMW M2 or M4 would be my recommendation at this price point.

Hard to beat the M2 as a package in terms of price, performance and kerbside appeal.

The experience a Cayman offers will be a world away from a GR Yaris. Even if the performance figures are similar. The Cayman will be a much more involving drive.

If your friend likes the look of them I'd say he needs to drive one before ruling it out.

I test drove both the 400 and the one before it, and the 400 looks better, nicer interior and easier to get in and out of, but to drive the earlier ones are far better imo.

The seats really gave me back ache and I was sat far too high in them.

To add more weight to the Cayman suggestions - I sold my 718 Cayman S a couple of months ago and havent found anything close to it in your price bracket that gives the same fun & driving experience

I'd definitely encourage them to consider it.
