Picked up a 66 plate F10 M5 last week after deciding the M140i was getting a little tight for space with a little one in the back and all the various bits you tend to lug around (pushchair, travel cot, etc...).

The M5 has been well looked after, 2 previous owners, full BMW dealer service history and was last serviced around 3000 miles ago.
It's done about 47k miles now and I wanted to get an idea of what sort preventative maintenance I should be looking at doing over the next 10-20k miles? I've got the BMW Insured Warranty (Comp) on the car now too.

I've got the car booked in to get all the fluids changed out for fresh stuff (engine oil, brake fluid, etc...). Spark plugs were done during the service about 20k miles ago.

Grateful for any advice offered by those who have been driving this outrageous animal for a while now.

Also as this is PH, pictures of the new (to me) car below:

They are great cars and want for little if serviced and treated properly. Mine's on 148k now, owned from new. Just had the conrod bearings replaced preventatively and the ones they removed were immaculate.

I did have a new crankcase breather system and injectors at about 90k, and also well as a DCT fluid and sump gasket change because it was weeping slightly.

Apart from that it's just been consumables.

Oh and also what tyres? You'll want to stick to either the OEM Michelin PSS or preferably the newer PS4S in the same size. Anything else including the OEM Pirelli aren't anywhere near as good.

Thank you for your insight!

OEM 20’s with PS4S (265/35/20 fronts and 295/30/20 rears).

That itself is fairly good evidence that it's come from a good home smile

Exactly the same as my M5 - Sakhir Orange is quite rare to see on them smile

Absolutely! Took a while to find one in Sakhir Orange and with a low number of previous owners and a full service history!

Congratulations on the purchase! Looks great.

I'm not as clued up on the S63 engine, however I can say that making sure you change the oil regularly for quality stuff (I'd go much more frequently than what BMW suggest, certainly not more than 10k miles between servicing and ideally less) and crucially make sure the oil is hot before you drive it hard.

I think these may have had VANOS issues of the oil wasn't regularly changed?

Also worth avoiding any temptation to remap etc, it's seems that a fair few have gone bang when they have been messed with, but otherwise I think they are ok if looked after.

I’m likely going to stick with the 5000 mile oil change intervals I was doing on the M140i as that was largely the approach most took over on the Babybmw forum.

As for remapping, I’ve no interest in going down that route. This has more than enough grunt, for now.

Interesting thread as I've had (now selling) one of similar age/mileage one for 3 years.

For what it's worth mine's been dependable and problem-free. Battery didn't even go flat when I went abroad for 3 months while it sat there - despite online claims that battery drain is an issue.

PS4s are noticeably better then the standard PSS but at least some of that is probably due to age.

Tyres wear on the inside shoulder before the actual central tread hits the limit, so look out for that.

Servicing at BMW's not the cheapest - I've had big service (£850) and brake fluid (£88) this year; not sure how those compare to independents.

Good do-everything car, and pretty affordable.
