I have a card reader built into my advent PC - it reads 4 types of memory/flash cards.

I dont know if I have the origional disks that came with the PC or not, is there a way to troubleshoot and hopefully get the drives working.

The problem is that when windows exlorer loads, they are simply not there (rebooting doesnt help) and I cant get my photos from camera to PC.

Is this a new computer? have the slots ever worked?

I don't know about how Advent wire up the slots, but they are probably just connected internally to a USB socket.
Do you have any normal USB devices thay you can plug in and try.

Some cameras come with USB wires that you can use to connect the camera directly with the PC, you can get your photos of this way till a proper solution can be found.

Jessops do a 5 types of card reader for about £15.00 just plugs into the usb socket on your computer, was just using it before reading this. At that price its not worth messing with your old one, just replace it.

Try the device manager - I believe is right click on my computer - properties - then device manager.

You should be able to see it listed there - update driver should be an option. Use that.

I have an SD card reader on my laptop, didn't work when I got it (off ebay, used), reinstalled the drive - now works...

Hope that helps

Just a thought, if you're running on battery ie not plugged into the mains, most laptops cut the power to non essential stuff. My acer turns off the card reader (via the pcmcia sockets) wireless and network connections and reduces the brightness of the screen.
If you look through the power options via the control panel, you might have the option to power it up. Alternatively, just plug it into the mains, and see if it powers everything up.

I have exactly the same problem have tried going into device manager and have found that one of the USB hubs has a yellow exclamation mark over it so guess that must be the dodgy one so tried to do an update but didnt work. Someone has suggested doing an uninstall then reinstall - I am using XP do I presume it will find the appropriate driver itself?
This is an aggrevation as I have a card reader that i can use in one of the USB ports
