Evening all,

Was on lower Richmond road in Wandsworth earlier and noticed sensors and what looks like a camera on the traffic lights. Never noticed it before driving down here, but can anyone confirm if it’s a set up for speeding or jumping red lights?

Second camera as you drive through the first set of lights

Looks like ANPR to me, a red light camera needs to actually be able to see the line you’re driving over when it’s on red

Maybe for ULEZ or some other way of extracting more cash from people unfortunate enough to live in London

Yeah they have ULEZ all over the place in this neck of the woods. I was just thrown by the second camera on the second lot of flights and what it does. Honestly you can’t do anything without getting fined here.

Second one is ULEZ camera. First just look like sensors tbh. Your safe.

The one mounted on top of the light stack aiming towards oncoming cars is simply an infrared sensor which picks up when a vehicle breaks the IR beam and is approaching. Ditto for the one aiming into the pedestrian crossing but for pedestrians.

The one mounted on top of the lights pointing to the rear of cars does look ANPRy but is not for congestion charge enforcement.

Keeping within the law seems to work well.

I wasn’t implying that running a red light is something that I or any of the residents want to do. It’s purely down to the fact that there are an abundance of cameras popping up and we are not always notified by the council, so people are are being fined for ridiculous things. Why don’t you go and look at our campaigns in the area, and see how the council have had to back down and take away traffic cams because they were not increasing safety or decreasing traffic, but lining the councils pockets.

Thanks for the useless comment though, old boy. Maybe there’s some kids days you could go and ruin to bring you joy 😘

Some of these cameras (the small grey ones with two lenses) may also be used to catch people using their phone at the wheel, as well as ANPR for ULEZ. It seems cameras have replaced police as cuts continue frown

Anyone know what these little aliens are on the top the the traffic lights? Assuming not cameras but some sort of sensors?
