That name sprung to my mind initially.

I think it is going to be one of those keep you guessing things, and we'll probably never find out.

There was the Carpenters for a start.

Don't think it was either of them driving though.

It could be that 'Stig' is anonymous, simply because one driver wouldn't be available throughout the whole run of episodes. Arranging filming with just one racing driver on the dates they need him would be quite tricky, especially if they use him for all road tests.

Therefore, Stig is likely to be up to three different racing drivers, and my guess is that one of them is the Hethel/Lotus test driver who knows the track well, and keeps winning the Autocar sideways challenge.

Otherwise, it could be our very own CJ from Henley, who's currently building a 600bhp Ultima (see Stig in PH profiles).

PS TG did seem like a bit of a Clarkson love-in with that fawning new co-presenter and the dopey rentamob hanging off his every word. The new studio style seemed a bit cold to me. Still, beating the Gatso was quite funny.

I dare say it is likely to be more than one person during the series, as you say. On the other hand, JC probably decided they needed a token racing driver because the other programmes have one, but his ego/the budget wouldn't necessarily allow a 'name' to do it. There are probably dozens of upcoming drivers in various series that are not household names (and who would cost very little) who are quicker than Tiff Needell. If they publicly used someone that was not a big name, then critics would pick up on it and they might come in for some stick. This way, no-one is any the wiser, and they make a comedy feature out of it. Sort of.

So I'm not the only one to suspect it could be one from our fold.

Come on CJ, I'm sure you'll neither confirm or deny, but you are conmspicuous by your absense. Besides when JC asked for a challenge to the 1:23 laptime, my thoughts were imeadiately of you and your Ultima....

..get it finshed, get it on that track and beat the time, after all you might know the course quite well already

Ah, I alreagy saw your strenuous denial on the other thread, but the Ultmia's legs will need stretching at some point, go on.

If Ted's inside info is correct it can only help around the corners, amsuming your seat is very low slung.
