Whats the general view on MontBlanc watches?

I quite like them, but are they a decently engineered timepiece? - It looks like they make their own movements, but wanted to canvas and see whether people thought of them as a high cost 'fashion' watch or a reasonably high quality watch.

TIA, Ace

I think they make nice watches, some really interesting watches actually. Probably a solid used buy.

I had a 42 mm Meisterstück Sport Chrono 7034 in 2015, I bought it used with his official rubber bracelet and kept it around 2 years. I think you could consider this my first foray into "serious" watches.

Not bad, well made but somehow it always bothered me that it was more of a fashion item rather than a purposed watch. Then the branding... I could not ever really forget their main business is pens are they are very good at it... I have a one and it is still here, while the watch is gone. But of course, if this is not bothering you, I give the actual watch a solid 7/10.

Quite highly regarded for a "Young" watch company with only a short history. Most of their watches are chronographs with a smattering of GMTs and moonphases, but they also do a tourbillon.

They have their own movements, made and designed in-house - they are a serious maker.

But I am not sure they will quite have the cachet of other makers, which is a shame as they're decent watches. They are unlikely to go up in value if that was a purchasing decision - on the other hand they are not massively expensive for the quality.

Not a fashion watch in my humbles. smile

ETA they base their movements on Sellita modules - but modified in-house.

It reminds me a bit of the way some people think of Lexus. It's hard to find any objective fault in the design or quality of the manufacturing - and yet, somehow, there's a faint question mark in the minds of some people over whether they deserve to be thought of in the same way as Mercedes.

(I owned two Lexus and like them very much, and still do. And right in front of me I have a Montblanc Meisterstuck fountain pen in it's box, filled with teal colour ink, waiting patiently for the next time I want to write something by hand).

Good car analogy in my opinion.
