We're collecting our first dog tomorrow. He's a rescue dog from Bosnia and he went to a family who decided he was too big for them after 2 days and sent him back to the kennels.

We're delighted and can't wait but we don't know his breed other than that it's a mix. We could get a DNA test done but I thought I'd ask for the Pistonheads experience to help me out for free first!

He’s gorgeous! I’ll take a guess and say a Jack Russell and some kind of sight hound . Good luck with him .

Thanks both for the guesses (and the lovely comments!).

I've just handed over a small fortune to Pets at Home so I think we're as prepared as we can be!

He's got personality but is calm, gentle and the right size for us (and our 5 and 9 year old children!), I can't wait. It's like new car day, plus new house day plus Christmas dinner levels of excitement!!

Yeah looks like some sort of lurcher cross, often have a lovely temperament - calm inside but plenty of energy out and about.

Worth being careful until you assess his prey drive - both of ours are obsessed with anything that moves - birds, cats, rabbits, hares, deer, sheep, goats, donkeys, fast running spiders, all fair game for chasing.

And mine, when there is any wind, leaves. Or bits of fluff. As you say, anything that moves. Under its own steam or otherwise!

Gorgeous little Terrier.

I call these Farm Terriers, because they are usuallly running around farms and have very mixed parentage.

I love rufty tufty terriers, such characters.

How lovely for him to have a new home where he'll be adored. Hard to imagine the life he might have had.

Thanks all, we've been advised not to walk him for the first week just take him in the garden but will bear the pret drive is a great watch out.

Can't wait for that first walk and I've been silently following the dog pictures thread for a while, can't wait to contribute for sure.

Looks like a longnosed shortlegged spinyback longtailed whippet to me.
Or it might be a bear.

Whatever his background, he is a good looking lad.

Good luck picking him up today

Thanks all, pick-up went well yesterday as per the picture below. Incidentally he did have a harness on and was connected to the seatbelt but I'm wondering if it should have been shorter to prevent him standing but maybe it's more relaxing for him being able to see out?

I'm now off to spam the "Post Photos of your dog thread!"

Congrats!

Good to let them have a bit of wriggle room on the back seat so they can get comfortable. Just want to restrain them enough when braking.

Mine usually travels in the footwell as putting the harness on is a bit of a pain!

Good to know thanks.

He was very relaxed getting in, touch wood that continues. The kennel assistant said they don't normally go in like that, he's been in a car before so that was a bonus!
