Just how much better is the Guilia QV over the Veloce?
Discussion
Pretty much as per the subject. I won't use the car every day (or week) so fuel isn't much of a consideration. Head is saying the Veloce is all the car I need and is more then quick enough, but the little devil on my shoulder is saying otherwise. Can you convince me one way or the other?
Good comparison here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMtPoRrgSCY
I'm also contemplating QF or Veloce. I do about 300 miles a week, 75% motorway but the rest is A / B roads, so a Giulia is ideal.
Obviously the QF costs more but the question is, what will offer the best value? Will I feel short changed in the Veloce or will it give most of the thrill for without the excess of the QF?

Can’t tell you if the QV is better than the Veloce (obviously it is, at some things), but I bought a Veloce with my sensible head on in January and nearly 12,000 miles later I still love it.
Like you, I do about 300 miles a week, mainly motorway, and a lot of stop start traffic. It’s great on the motorway, either cruising or in traffic, but it’s quick enough, and more importantly agile enough to be fun on A and B roads.
I’ve driven C classes, 3 and 4 series, and A4’s, and none of them come close to the agility and drivability of the Veloce. It feels much lighter and more alive than any of the obvious comparable models.
It’s one of the most comfortable cars I’ve ever had too; we drove pretty much non stop from Lake Como to Calais and straight onto a train, and stopped in Ashford for the night. I was still feeling fresh, the seats are so so comfortable and the driving position is spot on.
I really don’t know what I’d replace it with, other than another one.
Yes, a Ferrari derived V6 with over 500hp would be wonderful, but not much more use day in day out, and I wouldn’t want to keep it in fuel, tyres and servicing. I had a C63 as a daily and I’m not doing that again with my mileage.
It’s not missed a beat so far, it’s well built and doesn’t squeak or rattle, and importantly (for me) it still looks and feels like a car inside, instead of a giant mobile iPad.
As I said, I don’t live with a QV, but I can say that the Veloce is a brilliant car and I would recommend them to anyone.

Had both - a Veloce and 2 x Quadrifoglios.
The veloce is a great car, don't get me wrong, but the Quadrifoglio is a different beast.
Performance and handling / capability is in a different league ... It makes my m340i feel like a clown car in comparison.
If you can afford it, do it. It'll no doubt be the last great Alfa.

Like MrHotdogs above, I’ve owned both; QV first then a Veloce.
The QV is stupidly fast, as in utterly incredibly quick. It was way beyond my driving comfort zone in terms of performance and general responsibility that comes with ownership of something so focussed.
I chopped it in for an identical Veloce which was still rapid but (sadly) without the visceral noise and feel of the QV. That said, it’s a great car; restrained yet capable. And slightly more frugal.
The QV is the hot but slightly mental woman; the Veloce is the unassuming girl-next-door who has hidden charms.

I have quite a few Veloce's on my autotrader watch list as I'm looking to sell my A45 for something a bit bigger.
I'm a bit worried about dropping 80 odd bhp, I've test driven a Veloce and it seemed nice enough but didn't really get an opportunity to use the performance. Bit of a come down???
Also, read quite a few comments/ reviews that the build quality, especially inside isn't that great? And the infotainment system is very poor?
It's an Alfa though, and I've never owned one, so really should at some point!
It's very much the unknown one in my list, which includes Jag XF/ XE's, 330/340's.
My budget won't stretch to a QF, maybe one day?
(sorry about the thread derail)

I can only think these comments apply to the pre facelift versions; as I said mine is squeak and rattle free, and the infotainment is fine and intuitive to use.nordboy said:

It's never going to have the brutal acceleration of an A45 as they're cars built for different purposes.I'm a bit worried about dropping 80 odd bhp, I've test driven a Veloce and it seemed nice enough but didn't really get an opportunity to use the performance. Bit of a come down???

What you get in the Veloce though is a beautifully balanced RWD car, with more than enough power to have fun. Just remember you can't turn the TC off in a Veloce.
Infotainment isn't great in the pre facelift, but I had zero issues in the facelift model, and that's from someone used to BMWs Idrive. Had no build quality issues, and I'd say the interior is easily of the same quality as the F series BMWs.
340i again is a different beast - had a 440i GC and currently have an M340i.
The engine is magnificent, especially if you buy a pre GPF car (Sept 2018) so you can get the MPPSK installed - it's a warrantied valved exhaust and remap to 360bhp/500NM carried out BMW. Apparently it's actually closer to 400bhp according to a few Dyno tests. I've actually found it to be more economical than the Alfa and the noise / shove is fantastic, but they are and feel significantly heavier. The Alfa felt like more of a lightweight sportscar in comparison.
Just ended 14 years of BMW ownership and considering one of these in QF form so this thread is very interesting and timely. I love the guila shape. The QF seem to hold their value well too. I have never driven anything so fast but I do less than 50 miles a week usually and about 7000 a year so fuel not really a concern. Looking forward to nerding up on these and finding out as much as I can before jumping in.
