Evening all

As part of an estate I have been left, there is this Omega watch. I am having trouble identifying it. Any idea as to the model? The face reads Omega with Geneve central above 6 o’clock. It self winds and is on a stretch bracelet.

It looks like it has seen some action over the years and I have no reason not to believe it’s genuine. Trying to establish if it’s worth anything and if it is should I spend some money getting it serviced & refurbished. Whilst not wanting to destroy the patina, it needs some love to make it useable again

Any help appreciated.

In the hundreds rather than thousands. The cost to fix it up will approach the value I expect, but a nice thing to have.

I guessed it wasn’t of huge value but I don’t mind throwing some cash at it, the estate included a house so doing it up to keep it is fine, I don’t have an Omega in my collection. I am more curious about the watch itself but don’t know where to start!

As said probably in the hundreds. My guess by the hour markers it’s 60’s early 70’s.
If you can find the model (reference) number, usually stamped inside the back case put it in here to find more out about it.

Looks like a 1960's Seamaster Geneve.

It might be 165.0041 not sure I recognise the strap though?

Something similar to this?

I thought Seamaster but the ones I found online had a Seamaster engraving on the back this has nothing other than the word ‘waterproof’

Thanks Harry. When I get home I will have a look inside if I can find my case back tool

That last one was an automatic, if it’s manual wind then it could be 135.0041

When you open it up you’ll also see the movement serial number stamped on the movement, the number is in the millions (8 digit).
Check here for the year of production.

The strap isn’t original. Probs a Spidel or a knock off of one.

Interesting.

I bought a Seamaster Cosmic 2000 from an estate sale last week. Took it to the In-Time in our local department store - mainly out of loyalty as daughter has a Saturday job there - and they've quoted £540+ for it to go back to Omega for a service.

Nipped round to the local indie watch place and he can get it serviced for £450, apparently, but was telling me the back has to be 'blown' off.

I've left it with him for a £15 case clean whilst I mull it over. That's money better spent on the Boxster!

So the guess was right 135.0041 with Cal601 manual wind movement.
I see it’s a 32million serial number which dates it to 1970, which again is right for a model that first came out in 1968 it would have came with a leather strap too.

Thanks Harry. I guess I have to decide if it's worth refurbishing and wearing or selling it on as it is so somebody else can enjoy it.

I guess a service and new plexiglass glass front will be the best part of £500. Do you think replacing the plexiglass glass devalues it as it looses the patina from the last 50 years?

Ten minutes with some toothpaste on a cloth may well bring that back to an acceptable level. Will smell nicer too.
