Skoda Kodiaq or……

What other options do I have for the following brief:

Occasional 7 seater
Petrol or hybrid
Smaller than a LWB Transporter (current car)
£20-25k
Automatic
Ideally 40ish
Newish but doesn’t need to be new

Dacia Jogger Hybrid not yet confirmed for delivery

Discovery Sport diesel mainly and questionable reliability

Most SUVs are 5 seat only

Rear facing estate boot seats not really desirable

I can’t see past a Skoda Kodiaq and have driven one and the Mrs who’s car it will be was very pleased with it?

Is there anything else I’m missing that fits the brief?

We've had a Kodiaq SE-L 1.5 TSI DSG from new for 3.5 years now. Fits the bit perfectly as a family wagon with occasional use of rearmost 2 seats. Its the longest either of us have kept a car, so that says something.

32-33 mpg long term average, 80% of our miles are short journeys. Cruise control at 65mph it'll do 45 ish MPG on a run.

Skoda main dealer network is barely more expensive than independents.

Residuals are good too, ours has dropped £5k in 3.5 years and 40k miles.

We looked at the Disco Sport (used) and new X-Trail and Kodiaq. X-Trail was great value but didn't feel as nice as the Disco or Kodiaq interior wise. The suspect reliability of the Disco Sport meant we ended up with the Kodiaq

2 series rear most seats are too compromised

We used to have a touran (prev model) and that was the same. Plus a higher suv driving position is preferred (not my car so I’m not arguing this point)

Kodiaq VAG alternatives have been looked at. Tiguan is more £, Seat I like but she prefers the Skoda interior.

X Trail I agree felt a class below but nice enough cars

The Grand Picasso was on my list but more if a full time 7 seater. Sharan etc also felt very old tech now

The Kodiaq I’ve found having heated leather seats and the fancy sat Nav helps make it appealing also.

I’m grappling with the same problem. I’m viewing it as a very long term purchase so this only leaves the Japanese options in reality. Have you looked at the CRV? There was a 7 seat version on the non hybrid model I think.

I’ve had a Kodiaq and now have a Peugeot 5008. Both have been great cars. Overall the Skoda was better to drive and felt better put together, but the 5008 has the better interior and better ride. 5008 has a slightly more useful boot but both where huge.

If you need child seats then a C4 Grand Picasso or Spacetourer is an option. Like the Touran the individual sIiding seats make a big difference. I leave the rear seats down most of the time but have had 3 kids and 4 adults in and also 2 kids and 5 adults plus roof box.

Really don’t fancy another diesel for only 8000 miles a year and lot of town work and then a few long motorway trips a year
We decided to stick with the Kodiaq and picked it up yesterday
1 owner. Really comprehensive service record from the supplying dealer who took it back in part ex and then sold to us
Cream leather and black carpets really lifts the interior. Dark grey and 19” silver rims set off the outside
Engine is whisper quiet after driving a Van and the large sat Nav and CarPlay seems excellent especially as the climate is still on physical buttons.
Will report back how we get on with it

Good choice, which model did you go for?

If you haven't already seen it Skoda are doing an 'all in' package for £29 a month - 2 years warranty, servicing, MOT's and breakdown cover

I think the Kodiaq is a great car. I’m actually thinking of waiting for a LCI model though which has plug in hybrid as like you all my journeys are short so why not get a plug in. Given they’ve got the Octavia and superb just now as plug in it’s only a matter of time before it comes so I’m waiting for it.

Also waiting for the new 5 series but I reckon I’ll be waiting a while for that.

My Kodiaq (Scout 190) is coming up to 3 years old. It's quiet, very comfortable, 100% reliable, very practical and not too thirsty for a big, heavy car.
