Sorry, silly observation here, but was there an iPhone alarm going off during your lap?? That's enough to distract anyone!

As for the damage, that does look very light (in the photos)...but probably does justify a check over I would say, just to be sure. Hopefully the bumper can be realigned and the PPF has saved from needing any paint work, as I cannot imagine that will be a joy to match with a hard 'edge'.

That black air intake / fog trim will need replacing though I would expect....?

I'd say it was a good observation! I had an alarm set for 30 mins before I had some tuition booked, to give myself enough time to come back to the pits and let the car cool down a bit, but as you can guess that was delayed slightly! I agree that the plastic intake bits will probably need to be replaced, but hopefully that shouldn't be too much hassle/expense. I need to get the car cleaned up so I can get a better view but I believe there are still hose pipe bans in our area frown

Do you think I should send it to my dealer to have them look over the car, or do you think it would be better to send to a specialist?
Modern-Porsche specialist to check over the structure and bits you can't see - wires, pipework, rads etc etc.

...then after that...

Paint specialist for the paint.

Sorry to hear about the shunt, thankfully it doesn't look too bad.

Out of interest, how were you for noise levels at Bedford?

Many, many years ago I also ran out of talent at Bedford and hit a barrier.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBBpIIB1RN0

My hit looked a lot harder than yours though and I'd imagine a tincan French car isn't as solid as a German Porsche? I had no structural damage, just a dented wing and a damaged control module which Peugeot mounted in that wing. The damaged module only became apparent when it rained and water got into that module, which caused all sorts of electrical gremlins. I can't imagine there'd be anything to worry about, other than cosmetics with your shunt. I also had similar scuffs to you which just buffed out.

My ego was damaged more than the car, I did get back out on some hot laps after I'd settled my nerves though. Hope you got back on it and enjoyed the rest of the day!

If it were mine I would get it checked by a trusted specialist, realigned and polish out the slight black scuff on the PPF ?

There are always going to be some spills in learning, we all need a bit of good luck and if you were to be a little precious about the car, it will help.

All spills can be sorted out before you sell the car ... unless the next owner prefers the odd surface blemish and originality ?

There is nothing wrong with a life well lived smile

Thanks both, Parr Porsche Specialists are quite close to myself so will have a chat with them and see what they think about it, hopefully its just cosmetics as mentioned, i couldn't feel any difference dynamically in the car personally

Noise levels were fine! Never got spoke to once about noise levels in my 718, after all these new car are actually quite quiet due to all the OPF filters etc. that are in exhaust systems nowadays.

There was also an older shape 981 GT4 there on the day, which was louder than my car, and that seemed fine all day as well, I didn't see him get told off at all

However, I believe a 991.1 GT3 got a slap on the wrist for making a bit too much noise smile

Thank you, glad to know I'm not the only one that has hit the wall on a track that has none! laugh (although yours was a fair few years before mine!)

I did get back out on track, albeit a bit gingerly at first, but built my confidence back up slowly throughout the day and also got some instruction. In a way I'm glad that it had happened, as it has taught me about driving on a greasy track with tyres that are not suited for the conditions! I was actually surprised about how little damage there was, considering the speed I was going and they way I hit the barrier

Yes it looked quite a bump, a well planned barrier !

My party track is catching my mirrors in the track limit markers .... it feels like I am magnetically drawn to them ....

A new mirror base, wiring loom and fitting on a GT4 costs £413.72, but only so long as you have the intact mirror !

If you’re near Parr then SL Restoration can’t be far from you. They’re Porsche approved.

Some say, that if you go to an OPC for any body work they will record it on the cars file ( and knock down your trade in price when the time comes ). I always wondered how a small local body shop was full of almost new cars until the proprietor explained that to me

I don’t think it has an effect on the trade-in… but yes… there will be a paper trail of parts ordered against the VIN.

Never a nice experience. Glad you are ok and the car should be fine.

Luckily it wasn’t Armco and just plastic barrels sat on the surface that moved with the impact. Probably just popped a couple of plastic mounting clips and a little scuff.

Out of interest, did you have all the PCM aids on? Or had you turned them off?

That’s a deceptive corner leading up to the fast corner before the pit straight. The apex is actually late hence easy to understeer off if you point of reference is incorrect. Doesn’t help that Bedford is really like a big auto cross cone track.

Also wet grass doesn’t help
