Dealer - No Distance Selling

Know there is not much I can do and understand their reasoning.
Dealer does not do distance selling, looking to purchase new car (10 mile), so no need to check condition etc.
Dealer is 400 mile away so easier to purchase and have car delivered but due to no distance selling now stuck unless travel down and purchase,
Problem is have no time to to travel down in the next 6 to 8 weeks.
Dint think there are any other options but on the off chance, anyone know a way around this.

1) Ask a close friend or relative to go there and buy the car on your behalf
2) Buy a car from a nearer or more helpful dealer (or Cazoo or something)
3) Offer to pay a deposit for them to hold the car until you can collect it
4) Ask someone to cover whatever you're doing that's stopping you going there, and go and buy it

Was hoping of a way around where I can pay and arrange pick up / delivery without having to travel in person.
They have seemingly been “stung” previously and not willing to carry out any distance selling.

If you are 400 miles away, then getting after sales service will be hard if things go wrong. As travel and distance is such a problem, save yourself hassle and just buy locally.
Of course dealers are concerned with people playing with the distance selling regs, but I have had no problem with buying a Porsche and AMG by remote. Even after they were explicitly told I was a lawyer who knew his rights and expected the car to be presented as described. Had both cars delivered to me. The dealers asked for assurance I was not a time waster - once by calling my local main dealer to check up and another with a chat with the principal doing a background check.

Is there a dealership closer to you within the same group as the dealership that currently has the car? If so, they may be willing to move it so you can inspect it sooner at your convenience.

If you're in a position to buy a new car can you not just order one to your desired spec from a local dealership?

Hi Mitch - as I understand the OP, the car is brand new so no 'inspection' is required, he just wants to buy it but the (400 miles away) dealer won't deal with him unless its in person. I suspect if he orders one he would be looking at a long wait but this one is in stock.Or...

You may be on to something re there being another dealer from the same group nearer to the OP - that might assist the process.

Thats not an option as the dealer will not do a deal that falls under the distance selling rules. He wants the OP to be present in person or no deal!
I presume the reasoning behind this is that the car will be registered to the first purchaser and the dealer does not want them subsequently pulling out and returning the car under distance selling rules and leaving them with a car that has one previous owner - but I'm only guessing.

It is a new car, no option but turn up and sign for the car, they have had problems with distance selling and don’t allow.No links to any other dealers up North so not an option.
Have seen another one but different colour and they will distance sell, so making decision on that.
Can see why some dealers are not keen on distance selling as there has to be some trust either way, even on new cars.
Did similar for a 10 year old car last year with no issues, again from a reputable dealer which is a must.

We will not entertain any form of it now, Customer has to be on site to collect the car no exceptions.
We have had a few issues with previous distance sales so its a no go for us now it just doesnt work for us, Yes we prob lose the odd sale due to it but thats how we prefer to do it.

Be interesting to know what brand we're talking about here. I recently let an approved used BMW that I was interested in slip through the net because it would have been a nine hour round trip to look at it and the group doesn't have any dealerships within a reasonable distance. BMW dealer sites all mention "click & collect" on approved used cars, but no delivery option.
I can understand why dealers are reluctant to have sales that fall under DSR - it's a car, not a jumper that doesn't quite match your favourite nail poilsh.
I've collected many cars hundreds of miles away and back then with a young family, work etc, I had to get creative especially if it's a rare colour, model or spec. And the thing is to change your mindset to it being a trudge to an exciting road trip.
These are some suggestions:
(1) Early/first flights of the day are less likely to be delayed allowing you to fly up, collect and drive down in a day
(2) One way car hire - not always as expensive as you think - maybe £20 on top. I've driven Kent to Stoke, collected the new car and left it on the forecourt with permission, driven to the hire place and walked the mile or two back to drive the new car home.
(3) Travel up in the evening before and stay in a nearby hotel. If you have family then bring them and make a weekend of it.
(4) This one isn't for everyone - overnight National Express/Megabus. I've been from London to Glasgow on the Megabus for £9.99. Board around 10 or 11pm at London Victoria - wake up after an OK night in Glasgow between 6-8am. I'm lucky that I can sleep anywhere - buses, trains and on top of nightclub speakers. In effect the coach is your travel and hotel for the night and you're doing it in sleep time.

I am like you - will travel anywhere if its the right car and deal. Furthest I have gone is Denmark and Holland, twenty years ago, but I stay within the confines of UK to buy my cars these days!

Depends how motivated you are. I have an image in my head of the "perfect" car. I'll go anywhere for it, regardless of hassle. I also have an image of "not quite perfect but acceptable". I won't go to as much trouble for that, but I don't need to as examples meeting this criteria are more abundant, and I'm in no rush anyway, so I'm giving it until next spring for "perfect" to crop up somewhere before I give up and buy an "acceptable" one that's closer to home.
