50+ MPG, can tow a car/trailer, sub £10k.
Discussion
Am I asking for a rocking horse to plop?
I'm considering selling my current car and buying a daily and a weekend/track toy.
I'm looking for something that can do:
50MPG + on the motorway (not vital, but high 40s ideally).
Can tow a trailer and car.
Can fit the dogs.
All for sub £10k.
I don't really mind if it's an estate or SUV. I'm relatively handy with the spanners so don't mind fixing stuff myself, just hate breaking down.
My initial thoughts are F11/E61 530d, E350CDI, or VW Toeareg.
Anyone got any other ideas?

I've always driven with one eye on fuel economy, since doing big mileages in company cars without a fuel card.
I've owned a 3 litre diesel Touareg, and only once managed to get over 40mpg on a long journey. Average over a year was a shade over 35mpg.
I've also owned an E61 525d. Average over 3 years was low to mid 40s. Same with a Kia Sportage 2 litre diesel.
I have owned a few cars that could average a true 50mpg, but none of them would be happy towing a normal car on a trailer. Closest would've been a Vectra 1.9 diesel, which could achieve over 50mpg, and might just about manage a small/light racecar trailer?

Infiniti EX comes in well under (although I'd have to change that steering wheel for a black one) budget & they ULEZ/CAZ compliant & you'll see 42mpg on a run without a map, it also leaves you with a nice amount to add to the fun car

What car are you towing? any idea of the combined weight?50MPG + on the motorway (not vital, but high 40s ideally).

50 MPG+ is mission impossible, most 2.0TDI cars won't pull more than 1600kg. Even a 3.0TDI RWD (5-series, E-class) only goes up to 1800-2000kg.
Closest I've found is a 530D GT that can tow up to 2100kg, over that and you're into SUV territory which are thirsty and expensive to buy.
