Taking WBAC an old car / runabout / tip car

The screen price on my beater runabout I bought 2yrs ago is showing nearly double what I paid for it.

I was thinking it’s done a job well but is 14yrs old now, starting to show a fair bit rust both body and structure and potentially could get costly and defeat it’s purpose of a cheap runabout.

I’ve been fairly honest in the damage listing but the price is still decent. It’s road worthy, 4 matching recent tyres and passed the mot last month albeit with a list of advisories. 3 out of 4 alloys scraped, most panels got a mark on them, rust bubbles appearing through paint on front arches.

I know they claim to buy any car but wondered has anyone here taken an old unloved car along for appraisal and what happened. Did they want it, honour the price?

They will probably give you their minimum £50 for it, what was the online evaluation, and what car is it?

If you’ve been honest in the description, and that it doesn’t have obvious issues beyond their questions, in my experience, the price chip will be minimal and if you try a bit of chat, they may waive some of it to do a deal on the day.

Most cars seem to be around £300 for scrap, and there are many cartakeback type companies that will collect it and transfer money. So if they quote less than that scrap it.

It’s a beater not a scrapper of a mk7.1 fiesta, usual issues of a car that’s been used over 14yrs of rust beginning to set in, take hold and a few marks here and there. I paid a grand for it and wbac is offering 2800, reduced to 2500 with as much of the flaws mentioned as their online form allows.

£50 when they actually see it

WBAC offered me £300 for my used and abused 23 year old BMW 3 series daily.

I sold it privately for £2000.

The offered me the same £300 for my pristine 21 year old Alfa 156.

Sold privately for £1700.

Might be worth a few weeks on FB market place or eBay.
