Lost share certificate
Discussion
Apologies, this is a bit all over the place.
Back in 2005 I was working for NALCO where we (employees) were given the opportunity to buy shares in NALCO when they floated on the NASDAQ stock exchange. This wasn't an employee incentive scheme, we were given the details/forms to send to the bank that was dealing with this who I think were called SmithBarney.
I bought 200 shares at $15/shares.
I'm not sure of the order of this -
Over the next few years I think SmithBarney became MorganStanley SmithBarney and now they are MorganStanley Private Wealth Management?
Also NALCO were bought by EcoLab in 2011.
I received correspondence that gave me the opportunity to either, take the money for the NALCO shares being purchased at or I could take shares in EcoLab. I took the latter. With EcoLab shares being worth more than my NALCO shares I received 140 EcoLab shares. I remember receiving the paperwork, but now don't have this.
I do have an account number (from a statement in 2011) from MorganStanley SmithBarney, but maybe this is for the NALCO shares and this then changed(?). With EcoLab being a US company I called MorganStanley in the US to try to find my shares, but they don't recognise the account number.
I've also tried contacting the transfer agent, Computershare (details from EcoLab website), but they just refer me back to the bank I purchased them from 'If your Ecolab shares are held in a bank or brokerage account, contact your bank or broker for assistance.'
I guess EcoLab must know who owns their Shares?
Any ideas what other avenues I can take to find the shares? Up until last year the shares were worth around $32,000.
Thanks in advanced.

You just need to find their registrar and contact them to establish how they can issue your a replacement certificate or if it's electronic and being held by a nominee. The biggest issue will be translating the U.K. terminology into US.
Quickest way to get going is probably to contact the company's investor relations department which will be listed somewhere on their website.
