335i or S5?

Ok,

I've narrowed it down.

I'm split between two cars.

Audi S5

those are just examples of course, I'll be buying in the new year.

But these cars just excite me. I really miss my old A5 (3.0TDI)

I think if I'm honest with myself, I won't be doing track days monthly. BUT I do intend to get my race license next year, so the car WILL go on the track. But aside from that it's a road toy. We've got a mondeo estate for nice family stuff, we've got a caravelle for busy family stuff. This is nothing more than a toy to enjoy.

I appreciate i'm going to have to get shares in Michelin with either option lol. But I can't see anything else that I could honestly want to see out my office window and think "can't wait to get back in that driver seat"

I would imagine the beemer will perform better on track, and is alot easier to tune, but then the audi just has something I really love....

I'll be adding a dedicated track car in the future if I got either of these, the aim would be a toy for the road and a capable track machine to get me my license before I take the plunge and get something more track focussed.

the Audi, not really tunable but hey, who doesn't like a V8 the 335i, being turbo, skys really the limit to where I can take that. But in reality, both are quick enough right outta the box

I’ve got a E91 335i, great car. It makes such a good noise (imo), it also pulls so well from 2500rpm.

I think around 2008 it changed to a single turbo, where previously it had twin turbos.

My car is on 172k miles. Not had many issues. Currently got another faulty abs sesnor, but I’m chalking this fault down to the poor roads and pot holes in my area.

I believe the twin turbos are more tuneable, I could be wrong. But a quick look on superchips at an ecu remap, can give 50bhp extra and 70 more nm of torque.

If you're going to get into tracking and this is a stepping stone then the RWD Beemer is a no-brainer IMO.

The S5 will be a nice road car but on the track the heavy V8 up front and AWD will be both less enjoyable than the 335i, but also teach you next to nothing about how to drive your proper track car when you get it.

As an aside, I would not discount the 135i M Sport saloon with the N54 engine.
A little lighter and more nimble than the 3 series. Any remapping or upgrading of the twin turbo engine will have a bigger impact on the smaller car.

The S5 is a great road car but if you want to do track work, then it has to be the 335i.

yeah I thought that would be the case.

I mean 400bhp is easy in the 335, which is crazy!

That's the really hard bit getting the car is the easy part.

yeah for sure.

My issue is I like cars. loads of cars. So many things I like about different cars I could never have an overall favourite.

I just need a brilliant business idea to fund a car collection and i'm sorted.
