Just sold my R8 V10 plus gen 2, and looking for a replacement with 4 seats to occasionally take my kids out for short trips.
The gen 2 would be ideal but it seems the market is softening so may hold off a month or 2, but what’s the main differences between gen 1 and 2?
I’d love a 992 but could only stretch to a carerra if I was lucky. Does the 991 Turbo S far outstrip the base 992?

991.2 turbo s has a myriad of changes over first gen. Against an early glitchy 992 Carrera 4S or 2S I'd take the 991.2 turbo s without a second thought.
Changes over first gen 991 turbo s include (but not limited to) a better fuel system, better turbos, better ceramic brakes, anti lag software (gen 2 actually keeps turbos spinning under brakes) and the ubiquitous and all important Apple Car Play (for some)

If your worried about a softening market now is not the time to buy. The gen 2 would be ideal but it seems the market is softening so may hold off a month or 2, but what’s the main differences between gen 1 and 2?

Rufmeister, the one I will say is: don’t settle for the standard 991 Turbo. I was pondering a similar thing a few weeks ago and drove one to consider and found myself…bored.
Can’t see there would be a huge difference to a complete novice to me but will bear it in mind. Thanks.I'm after one too. They will soften, anyone that tells you that the cost of borrowing will sky rocket without the asset price being hit is delusional or doesn't understand basic economics. Unless we're suddenly all paying cash?
The spec I'm after is a .1 black cab with red leather. At the right price of course. Not bothered by mileage as its going to be used amongst other stuff and will even out.
I cannot see the .2 being noticeably different on uk roads to justify the additional premium.

What is the right spec for a 991.1 Turbo S? If the market doesn’t soften, that’s what I can afford.
Wait for the gen 2 991.2. Its worth the extra money for sure. I've only listed a few changes but Porsche really did go through the whole car on gen 2 991. Against gen 1 991.1 turbo s I'd opt for a 992 C4/2 S instead and if I find I'm getting bored later maybe remap to 600bhp via Litchfield, 9e etc but at 450bhp you will not be disappointed. They're fantastic the 992s only issue I've had is they throw up warning lights. Not acceptable in a new car. Also some interface issues which I really don't like. 992 best looking water cooled for me. They look stunning.
What was the R8 like? The last of the line 2015 gen 1 V10 plus look super value. Can not understand why they are so unpopular compared to say a rusty air-cooled with a slap of lipstick selling at twice the money. Never driven one. Whats wrong with them?

I can not see 991 and 992 prices softening. No chance. Supply on new cars simply not there.
I noted ash good knocked 5 per cent off a number of cars last weekend. More to come. However a Lab govt in a few years? Now that will properly send UK used car market into free fall as they try and kill ICE and tax motorists, car insurance, car tax, and fuel to high heaven. However on current policies (lack of) I can see Labour losing in 2 years. Seen it happen before with John Major.
I have had a 991.1 Turbo (2015 not an S )can't fault it. Goes like a rocket if you want it to, or drives like a Mercedes when the wife is in it.
Had a F430 for 7 years before and an R8 V8 for 3 years ..... No regrets from me, slips under the radar and very capable.

I’ve had a 991.1 Turbo S and a 991.2 Turbo S and as others have said they went right through the car updating it with the .2.
I wouldn’t have a .1 again but would definitely buy a .2 in the right spec. And then I’d get a good aggressive geo on the car to take away some of the GT cruiser feel and make it more nimble.

The difference in price will probably see me into a .1 as the .2 is realistically just a bit out of my reach, even if the market were to soften a little.
ES Motor are on my doorstep and I enquired about a tuning package with them, thank goodness they are quick enough out the box!
Are Litchfield remaps decent, seem quite reasonable cost wise.
Would a warranty be a wise move?
