Wow.

was great to be back in the paddock with the race car at last .. after our non-event at Cadwell.

Was even better as the mood in the paddock was fantastic .. calm , relaxed, and very very friendly .. great to see John out again for the first time since oulton last year and going like a train not far off the pace of Tim and Pat, considering his absence from teh driving seat that was great to see he had the biggest smile afterwards too so i guess John himself felt good to be back in the pilot seat.

Congratulations to everyonme who got out and raced, well done to george in his first outing aswell .. hope to see you out more and more as the bug bites!

We had a good time too .. did the usual over-nighter to get the car ready for the friday testing .. arrived about midday so got two sessions out on track with the rebuilt engine. Cliff took it very steady .. it's so frustrating to see a race car going so slowly but with the new engine in he didn't want to take any chances. Fortunately all went well and the car behaved itself perfectly once the leaking coolant pipes under the plenum were sorted

Still too few miles on the car to show it's true potential .. a nominal 4k rev limit for the initial stages raising to 5k for the saturday race, plus not using any kind of prolonged boost meant the performance down the straights was well down on what the car should be capable of . the reduced rev limit meant using 5th gear for teh straights too .. lower wheel hp and an extra gear change all compromising the overall pace.

Good news is that corner speeds are well up on the previous car, and that was no slouch in the corners anyway so the suspension mods seem to work even with just best-guess settings we're running at the mo, cliff reporting back of a very stable package with understeer in the hairpin the only blot .. without being able to control the engine on the throttle though that would always be a problem. A small modification to the line through the corner limited that effect anyway.

I must apologise for us not being out on the grid on the sunday .. whilst adjusting the ecu the data file/map somehow got corrupted and even though we worked our socks off to try and get the map back we failed and had to watch the race from the grandstand. We only wanted to make the idle more stable anyway .. wish we'd not bothered now

I was gutted as the car was showing real promise.

congratulations for two race wins to steve hall .. and to graham for keeping him honest. Mark H also flies in the griff, and what a nice unassuming bloke he is too .. very modest but showed great skill and commitment on track, well done.

Good to be back .. best wishes one and all.

joo

Your right It felt really boyant in the paddock with everyone sounding upbeat and ready for the challenge. There is a lot of interest for next season and hoepfully we will see some of the old cars out in new hands soon.

It was interesting running two cars for the first time and the tasmin ran very well considering it has stood idle since last season and the engine that we threw in it last week hasnt run for over a year.. the only blot on its copy book was eating the brand new starter, which entailed Iain doing a run from rockingham ( where he took his ards test) to milton keynes to pick up a spare from More racing.

For his first race and first time in the car i think George put in a stirling effort and some good times considering its not the most powerfull engine and the Diff thats in it makes it unstable in the corners ( that will be changed for mallory) I think He's set Iain a target for his first outing at mallory.

The Tuscan proved a little more interesting, we smashed a wheel on a kerb on friday and then suffered a failed fuel pressure regulator at the end of the second qualifying. We thought it was a plug lead problem, but in the first race it got worse, leaving us well off the front running pace, circulating in no mans land between the two packs, and 53 seconds donw on Steve Hall at the end

The second race was more interesting for us, Marc's first corner spin put him out of contention leaving us to snap at the heals of the thorpedo with only a 1.1 second and 200 bhp gap between us at the end of the race.

The qualifying between us and Marc in the griff was close. for race 1 he got me by 0.02 of a second and for race 2 i returned the favour comming in 0.2 seconds faster.

The class B fight is close with Myself and Marc equal on points with 2 rounds to go !!!

You still can't spell my name can you Mr. Waldon, its I...A...I...N!!!

to everyone in the Croft paddock, especially for the burgers on Friday night after a 6hour diverted journey to Croft. Much appriciated.

Its good to see that despite personal differences of opinion as to were things should go, especially next year, we can all get together and play. That says something.
Cliff/Joo, sad to see you couldn't make it to the grid on Sunday, cant wait to see that car at 10/10ths.

Hope you all have a sucessful 6weeks before Mallory, that bricking it sensation is already creeping in, hopefully i can have as sucessful a time as George in my first weekend.

Regards
Iain

Excuses, I dont need excuses, only reasons, and the rest of the time it's Lex's fault.

Just like to say 'big thanx' to Boosted and Joo for making sure we actually raced this weekend, and to everyone in the paddock who made us most welcome. A fantastic atmosphere all weekend which I must admit I have really missed this year being on the sidelines.

Firstly thums up for Mike who got the engine ready in double quick time, the pistons were still in the USA on Tuesday night and didn't show till Thursday morning. We picked up the engine about 10p.m. Thursday night and set off for Track Car Solutions. The installation began about 11:30p.m. and we fired it up about 9a.m. Not for the first time, MEGA thanx to Joo, who worked with me throughout the night to get the car ready.

Tools were thrown into the car and we set off for Croft about 10a.m. having faxed our race application just before we left. Arrived at Croft just after 12 and managed 2 slowish test sessions in the afternoon just putting miles on the motor.

Saturday qually we nursed the motor with minimal load and revs to get moderate times. In the Saturday race we took it easy for a few laps and had a good dice with John Sumner in his first race since Oulton last year. We managed a 1:41 toward the end of the race and given the limited load / revs on the engine we were delighted with the pace of the car. Joo has worked wonders with the supension set-up and the new tyres are stunning compared to last years Kumho's.

As Joo said, Sunday's ECU problems were a big disappointment, but that's racing. Just glad to be back and can't wait till Mallory.
