I’m looking to purchase one of these and my budget buys me one with around 70k on the clock. Is this a little on the high side? Anything to look out for?

I’d be hoping to keep it 2-3 years and be able to sell it on.

You may get some helpful responses by also stating the age of the car.

I’d be looking at an R Line around 2015-2016

I bought a one owner, 64,000 mile 2014 1.4 TSI from my sister in law. It had been dealer serviced whilst under warranty and by a local garage thereafter.
I did around 20,000 miles in just under two years, averaging around 45mpg.
There were two major issues. One was the DSG box which had been rebuilt (badly) at 46,000 miles when the mechatronic unit failed. It failed again at 68,000 miles, necessitating another rebuild.
The other problem was a cabin water leak which caused condensation on the windows. This was eventually tracked down to the ventilation flaps behind the rear bumper. The rubber seals between the body and the vent had failed allowing the rear corners of each rear wing to collect water. I removed and resealed both vents with silicone and the problem was resolved.
At around 82,000 miles, odd little things started to need attention, mainly electrical, so time for a change.
I used the car as my daily driver and it was a good drive. So good that I replaced it with a 2020 1.5 TSI GT Edition with 5000 miles.

Cheers, that’s not bad then, I was looking at manuals to so that rules out DSG issues. For about £13k I can get a 2015 with around 70k on it.

The Golf's a decent car but I'd really take a good look at the T3 V40 in R Design Pro spec:

It's just as good a car for your money whilst being newer & lower mileage.

Or if you can live with a three door you can get a Kia Pro Ceed GT that'll have Android Auto/Car Play & at least 2 years of the Manufacturers Warranty left too:

3 years Warranty:

Nah, 70k is nothing. Cambelt interval is every 133k with no time limit, spark plugs every 38k, oil change every 9k or annually, whichever is sooner. Avoid the DSGs - they use the crappy 7 speed dry clutch model. Don't remap them, the turbos blow up, etc. Overall a very good motor, you'll get around 45 mpg without too much effort.
