I know, I know, it's a bit humdrum but I bought a Cayman a few months back and the flap on the drinks holder wouldn't open. Not a problem really because I'm never going to use it but everyone whose been in the car has had a go at pushing it to see what happens and been disappointed it didn't work.

So I tried removing the unit, as per YT, to see if I could do anything with it but just couldn't get the two hex-head screws out. Anyway, in trying, the flap opened and now won't close.

Ay ideas anyone? Should I try and get a second-hand unit from a breaker? Don't want to spend the mad money Porsche would want for a new one.

And what is it about even the nicest of sellers that they don't mention this kind of thing when you ask if there's anything about a car that doesn't work?

Yes, there's a lesson.

Had a similar thing on my 911 so it is probably a common fault, it was very sensitive so either would not open or would then not stay shut. Quite annoying but didn't discover any fix as it was an intermittent fault, just left it shut in the end...

maybe not what you're asking but there's a guy who offers a repair service on ebay if you can get it out and not repair it yourself.

Like philcray, mine became temperamental on my 2yr old Cayman. Got the OPC to fix it last time it was in for a service, not sure what magic trick they performed (....beyond making the contents of my bank account disappear for the servicing).

I had the same problem when I bought my 997.
First I removed the whole unit from the car (open glovebox, loosen two or three Torx screws (or HEX), remove the unit.

At home, i opened the unit (unscrew all screw, self explanatory really, can‘t remember whether there are springs or the like to pay attention to) I thoroughly cleaned everything with WD40, put some silicone grease on the mechanisms and put everything back together. Turned out mine was just sticky because someone spilt lemonade over it at some point and then closed it.

Has been working just fine ever since (5 years and running).
