Can you get more bang for your buck than a used 335D?

From a pure bhp/torque, daily, 5 door, A to B family car, traffic light Grand Prix, point of view, can you get more bang for your buck than a used 2016-ish (stock/stage1) 335D?

Max budget being about 17 18k.... could you please post some examples?

P.S: around same year car no older than 2014-2016 can be diesel or petrol no 2 door hairdresser cars allowed ).

Insignia VXR is the only one I can think of maybe .....although after watching this not so sure

hmm not when you take in consideraton mpg/road tax....a bit expensive that one maybe for about 13k-14k-ish.... but not sure about reliability servicing parts...etc...

Yes. I don't see why a few years matters when you have a 450bhp V8 under the bonnet - there was no Great Leap Forward in automotive technology from 2009 to 2014.

What I was going to suggest. I've driven 330 & 335 back to back and honestly I couldn't really tell the difference unless you were giving it 100%. For an everyday car I think i'd save a few ££ and have the 330

I much prefer the BMW straight six diesel sound to the noise of an EA888. Not that the Golf R sounds bad, it just doesn't sound great like a 330d.

But

Six cylinders > four cylinders

For me, if it's a lightweight car, and the petrol four is a high revving NA or supercharged unit, petrol four it is.

If it's a big heavy family car and a boring generic turbocharged four, I'll take the diesel six, thanks.
