Efficient auto estate for 5k ish?
Discussion
Need to find something that is half decent on fuel and practical to boot. Going to be a dog/tip run car. Would like to be seeing a combined 60+ mpg. Needs to be auto as the wife only has an auto licence.
Focus 1.5 tdci looks good but it would be pretty high mileage for the price, how do they handle the high miles? bit risky?
Maybe a passat?
Fuel economy very important. Not just to the wallet but to shut the wife up
Any suggestions?

I've got the focus 1.6 diesel, but it's the hatchback not estate.
It isn't brilliant on fuel really, it handles well and it's been very reliable for the 38k miles I've had it.
Maybe the 1.5 is an improvement MPG wise but I get around 45-48, and mines a manual, so i would imagine 60 plus isnt realistic. The auto box isn't brilliant apparently.
Maybe a 1.6 diesel civic would be worth a look.
