Chopsticks - Any Recommendations?
Discussion
Did some stir fried noodles last night and by coincidence found some chopsticks hidden in the back of a kitchen drawer. They were the cheap plastic ones that you get given in a Chinese restaurant which to be fair is probably where they came from... Long story short the Mrs reckoned I had no chance of being able to use them, challenge accepted and she ended up doing the washing up that night :-)
All I'm after is a pair or two that are comfortable to use and reasonably hard-wearing for when they inevitably get left in the sink overnight. Don't mind paying a bit extra for something decent but not interested in spending silly money either.
Looking on Amazon and eBay comes up with a zillion results and I have no idea apart from the obvious what I'm looking at - any suggestions?

Low price black hole
Many are bought for their looks/fashion. Try a set you like the look of. The problem with the ones you get from Chinese take-aways is they may have been badly stored and become curved/bent,
If you're not used to them do not try Japanese ones, they require more dexterity, though once you are used to them they provide finer control than the larger Chinese ones. Still at the price they go for, it's not like they are costing you much if you do not like them.
If you find the plastic ones a bit slippery top use (and hold the food) then you can get decent wooden disposable ones (which can be dumped in garden waste).
Not much help I suppose, but it might give you an idea.
Oh and avoid metal ones - most are really just decorative. The Korean ones are actually flat on the inside at the end to help grand food, but require a little practice to hold, plus conduct heat.
Biggest trick, if you are now aware, is to try and keep the length at the food end the same, so the ends touch/are level. Also do not use too much pressure.

RobbieTheTruth, nope was an honest question - eating noodles with chopsticks just felt better / more appropriate so thought I'd look at getting some that hadn't been acquired from a restaurant years ago and wasn't expecting so big a range of types and materials, thought chopsticks were chopsticks but clearly not!
dapprman, thanks for the info, on a whim I've got some of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0755TNK2X/ turning up later today and doing a special fried rice for dinner so will be an interesting learning curve lol. Can see this getting out of hand and ending up with dozens of pairs, each slightly different yet strangely similar.....

Rice/fried rice you use the chopsticks to shove the food in to your mouth with the bowl edge against your lips (well not in Japan, but in China ...), not pick clumps of it up with them Edited by Gluggy on Saturday 29th October 15:30

Ffs, this thread
I wonder when we're going to get onto gold plated chopsticks for the powerfully built PH director? Maybe with some encrusted industrial diamond for extra grip. Let's discuss the legality of cutting small nicks on the business end and the sustainability of the wood they're made of.
Do they harbour germs?
Are they dishwasher safe?
Recyclable?
What about a bit of curve at the end to hold more food?
Inconel, magnesium alloy or Titanium?
Questions, questions, it's all very important, they aren't just a pair of sticks to force food into your mouth you know
