So after an uneventful 22 months in a E91 335i https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... the time came to upgrade for something a bit bigger and comfier.

The search begin looking at Volvo’s offerings, Mercedes E-Class or a F31. But after all the deliberating, I always came back to the BMW (again) and a touring (again). One small thing I know I’d miss if I went with another marque, the split tailgate. I use it so often, I know I would miss it.

The criteria was
- tinted windows
- pano roof
- not silver
- dark leather
- LCI
- pro nav
- 6 cylinder engine

After much looking on AT and eBay I came across the perfect car for me.

Images from the advert -

It ticked a lot of the boxes.
- tinted windows CHECK
- pano roof CHECK
- not silver CHECK
- dark leather CHECK
- LCI CHECK
- pro nav CHECK
- 6 cylinder engine CHECK (albeit diesel).

Well what else was specced on the car?
- adaptive led headlights
- reversing camera
- Harmon/Kardon speaker upgrade
- head up display
- comfort access
- paddle shifters
- 19” wheels

The car also had some new rear discs put on and comes with a FBMWSH, last big service done yesterday.

The drive back from Shrewsbury was nice. All B roads. Very comfy drive. Much nicer than the 3 series it follows (to be expected). The 8 speed auto is brilliantly smooth. Favourite thing so far… heads up display! With the sat nav it’s brilliant. Engine pulls really well. Very torque even compared to the twin turbo 335i.

Not had chance to take any of my own photos really as soon as I got back from getting the car, it was time to head to the Wrexham game.

So nothing major planned for it. Only thing so far will be a de badge.

Cheers Dan, lovely place to sit. Not done much A road driving yet. But when I have coming back from football, it was effortless. Engine was nice and quiet.

Nice cars the F11's I had one for a very short time, moved it on as I just couldn't get comfy in the M Sport seats (only 41 at the time), sat in a mates and did some miles in it and they were so much better (comfort seats), other than that great all rounder.

The blue is really nice. I’m finding the ride a lot more comfier then the e91 I had.

Already needs a clean due to the roads and weather this weekend.

Some beading

Looks lovely. I had a saloon in Med. Blue over Oyster/Black, but in Luxury trim.

It's probably the company car I miss the most and if I'd known I was moving into a role without one within a few months of handing it back, I'd have bought it.

I had a 14 plate 535d in silver and miss it. Yours looks great in that blue, and if I ordered one from new it would have been this colour. Mine didn’t have the HUD and the pan roof, my newer 340i has both and I really like both of them, and would struggle without them now.

I’ve taken a shine to the HUD already. I turned it off on the test drive, within 30 seconds it was back on.

Kids love the panoramic roof, it’s a nice feature to have.

Well a week into ownership. And so far very positive.

The torque from the engine makes overtaking a breeze. Engine is very refined. The zf8 gearbox really is marvellous. I read a lot of positive stuff about the auto box, but wow! The adaptive led lights are great for myself in the evening on the roads I travel on.

Did have a slight issue with Bluetooth streaming, but an update to my iPhone seems to have fixed that issue now.

No real mods needed, will just need to replace the parking brake switch as there’s a slight hairline crack running along it.

Some bonus beading from this evening.

I've got one of those too - a 535d F10 saloon in Luxury trim with Oyster leather to be exact - and I really like it. With the Comfort seats and Adaptive Drive it really does waft about and the six cylinder engine / ZF8 gearbox combination is lovely. It can shift if needed too, an added bonus.

Thoroughly recommended for those considering a used one, although I have read that regular oil changes are important for the N57 engine. Details should be stored on the car's iDrive.

Yeah mine won’t be due another service for another 2 years.

I may actually stick to getting services done at BMW as the car came with a FBMWSH.

I'd personally do the oil at a minimum every 12 months pal; you'll have a dipstick tube on yours IIRC - so do it via the Pela pump method like I do. Makes life easier etc...

Just keep the receipts for the oil & filter etc...

I wouldn't want to be paying BMW prices for such a simple job

Just use any 5W30 that meets the necessary LL04 specs and Mahle/Mann filters etc

Slight OT but is it just me or is the nav is these (pro or otherwise) all in all a bit rubbish?

I have it in mine and never use apart from occasionally looking at the map. Tomtom or Google maps murders it on route logic and clarity of information.

I updated the maps in my F01 730D to the latest 2022 maps and they were superb. Zero issues etc...

Not as 'up to date/live' as Google Maps on my phone; but still very good

I think you'll have to buy from the BMW Connected Drive store.

For my E90, I just bought a DVD on eBay - genuine, too - for £17.50.

But I do remember having to pay BMW for maps when I had an F10 - they were updated OTA.

Contact Rusty @ https://www.satnavupgrades.co.uk/ pal

He sorted mine on a USB stick and sent it to me with the necessary code for £40 IIRC

Plugged in, code entered, took 40 mins or there abouts to update thumbup
